Walking into Whitecliff's Warren Street tasting room, the list is short and entirely estate-grown — no filler, no imported crowd-pleasers, just Hudson Valley through and through. It's a focused pour from a winery that's been quietly doing serious work with cold-climate grapes since the 1990s. If you came in expecting a standard wine bar, recalibrate fast.
The portfolio leans hard into what actually grows well in the Hudson Valley: hybrid varieties like Traminette and Awosting White sit alongside cold-hardy classics like Cabernet Franc and Gamay Noir. That's not a compromise — that's a winery playing to its terroir instead of chasing trends. The Gamay Noir in particular signals real ambition; this is not a grape many Hudson Valley producers pull off convincingly, and Whitecliff does. The list is small, maybe 10-15 wines total, but every bottle earns its spot.
You're looking at 6-12 pours depending on the day, which is a solid spread for an estate tasting room of this size. The by-the-glass lineup rotates through the estate portfolio, so you'll typically have access to both the whites and the reds without committing to a full bottle. Pricing sits comfortably in the affordable range, making it easy to try a few without watching your wallet.
Whitecliff Vineyard Traminette — $
Traminette is an aromatic hybrid that delivers real floral complexity at a tasting-room price point that feels almost unfair. This is the kind of grape that gets dismissed by people who haven't tried it, but Whitecliff's version is a genuine argument for Hudson Valley whites.
Whitecliff Vineyard Awosting White
Named after a lake in the Shawangunks near the vineyard, this is a blend built around hybrid varieties that most people walk past on the way to the Cab Franc. That's a mistake. It's approachable but has more going on than the label suggests — a solid case for giving New York State white blends a serious look.
Whitecliff Vineyard Cabernet Franc
Not because it's bad — it isn't — but if you're coming here for the first time, ordering the Cab Franc means you're defaulting to a grape you probably already know instead of exploring what makes this winery worth the trip. Save it for a return visit when you've already worked through the hybrids.
Whitecliff Vineyard Gamay Noir + Charcuterie board
Gamay's bright acidity and red-fruit profile cut through cured meats without overwhelming them — it's the same reason Beaujolais has always been a charcuterie staple. Whitecliff's Hudson Valley take brings a slightly earthier edge that makes the whole thing feel local and intentional.
The Bottom Line
This is one of the better arguments for Hudson Valley wine you'll find on a single Warren Street block. If you've written off New York State as a wine region, Whitecliff's tasting room is the correction you didn't know you needed.
