Wingman Metrics
You walk in expecting a basic Italian-American wine list β you know, a Chianti, a Pinot Grigio, maybe a token Barolo β and instead you find Sassicaia, Tignanello, and a Brunello from Col d'Orcia staring back at you. At a pizza place in Redmond. It's disorienting in the best possible way.
Fifty-four labels is a lot to carry when your average ticket is probably a Margherita and a Caesar, but Vicino leans all the way into the Italian canon and doesn't apologize for it. Tuscany and Piedmont anchor the list with serious intent β Damilano's 'Lecinquevigne' Barolo and Scarpa's 'Tettineive' Barbaresco represent Piedmont at its nerdy best, while the Super Tuscan heavy-hitters (Tignanello, Sassicaia, a magnum of Tenuta Collazzi) give the list genuine prestige. Sicily shows up via Planeta, Alto Adige and Veneto get their seats, and Allegrini's Amarone rounds out the Veneto corner nicely. The list skews almost entirely Italian, which is exactly right β you're not here for a Napa Cab.
Eleven pours is a respectable BTG program for a casual pizza spot, ranging from $9 to $13 a glass. The Vietti 'Roero' Arneis and Berlucchi '61 Franciacorta are the standouts worth seeking out β both are genuine Italian wines you don't find by the glass at many spots. The pricing is approachable enough that you won't feel punished for ordering a second pour while you wait on your pizza.
Vietti 'Roero' 2021 Arneis β $13/glass (est.)
Arneis is the underdog white of Piedmont β floral, crisp, slightly almond-bitter on the finish β and Vietti makes one of the best versions around. At a pizza joint by the glass, this is a genuine find and the kind of pour that makes the list worth trusting.
Berlucchi '61 Franciacorta Extra Brut
Everyone reaches for Prosecco (and Avissi is right there on the list to tempt them), but Franciacorta is Italy's answer to Champagne β traditional method, real depth, proper bubbles. Most people skip it because they don't recognize the name. That's your advantage.
Tenuta San Guido 'Sassicaia' 2018
Look, it's a thrill to see Sassicaia on a pizza list. But at $455 a bottle, you're paying a steep restaurant premium on a wine that retails around $200β$230. Respect the ambition, skip the markup β order it at a wine bar where the pour is the point.
Damilano 'Lecinquevigne' 2020 Barolo + Neapolitan pizza with fennel sausage
Barolo's high acid and firm tannins are built for fatty, savory food. The fennel in the sausage plays against the wine's characteristic tar-and-rose profile, and the char on the Neapolitan crust holds up to Nebbiolo's grip. It's a better match than most $20 Chiantis you'd default to.
π² The Bottom Line
Vicino is a genuinely surprising wine program hiding inside a casual pizza concept β the Italian-focused list has real depth and some prestige bottles that belong in a much fancier room. Markups on the top shelf are aggressive, but if you stick to the mid-tier and the glass pours, you're eating well and drinking better than you had any right to expect.
Overlake / SE Redmond Β· Redmond Β· Italian
Tropea is the kind of neighborhood Italian spot where the wine list does its job without breaking any new ground β reliable, Italian-focused, and slightly overpriced in spots. Send a friend here who wants a solid Brunello with their pasta, not a friend who wants to be surprised.

Barking Frog is the kind of wine program you want to find at a wine country lodge β regionally committed, staffed by someone who gives a damn, and built around the same local ethos as the kitchen. Markup is the only real friction; everything else earns its reputation.

Red Robin's wine program is an afterthought dressed as a bar menu β order a craft beer or a cocktail and don't look back. If someone at the table insists on wine, point them toward the rosΓ© and change the subject.

Three Lions is a genuinely fun pub for watching a match over a cold pint β but the wine list is purely incidental, maintained with minimal effort and zero ambition. Come for the football, the beers, and the bangers and mash; if wine is your thing, drink something else tonight.
