You walk into a converted firehouse, dogs are welcome, someone's reading in the corner, and there's a wine list tucked behind the craft beer menu. It shouldn't work this well, but it does. Twelve labels, all by the glass, and they've clearly put some thought into this beyond just grabbing whatever the distributor was pushing.
For a bookstore bar, the list punches well above its weight class. France and Italy anchor the selection, with a Loire Valley Sancerre from Domaine Auchere sitting next to a Señorio de P. Peciña Rioja Cosecha that has no business being this accessible at a place also selling used paperbacks. There's even an Austrian Gruner Veltliner from Weingut Aigner, which is exactly the kind of low-key adventurous pick that signals someone here actually cares. The gaps are real — no serious reds beyond the Cote du Rhone and the Nero d'Avola, and depth is limited by design — but for what this place is, the curation is genuinely impressive.
Everything on the list is available by the glass, which is the right call for a spot where people are browsing shelves and nursing a drink, not committing to a bottle. The Lisabella Blanc Fizz NV gives you a casual, low-stakes sparkling option, and the Coteaux du Gennois Pinot Noir Rosé rounds out the warm-weather crowd pleasers. Rotation appears limited — this feels like a list that gets updated infrequently — but the current slate holds up.
Señorio de P. Peciña Rioja Cosecha 2013 — $
A classically structured Rioja from a serious producer in Rioja Alta — at bookstore-bar prices, this is the kind of find that makes you want to tip well and come back.
Weingut Aigner Gruner Veltliner 2013
Most people at a bar like this are reaching for the rosé or the Pinot Grigio. The Gruner is the smarter move — crisp, peppery, and from a solid Austrian producer that doesn't get nearly enough credit on casual wine lists.
Il Conte Pinot Grigio 2013
Nothing offensive about it, but in a list this short you have better options. The Gruner does everything this wants to do and then some — save the Pinot Grigio slot for a different night.
Calea Nero D'Avola 2013 + Artisan bar snacks
Nero d'Avola brings enough earthy, dark-fruited weight to stand up to salty, savory bar bites without overwhelming anything. It's the kind of wine that makes a plate of charcuterie and cheese feel like a full evening.
🎲 The Bottom Line
The Spotty Dog is the wine world's version of finding a great novel in a gas station — unexpected, oddly satisfying, and worth telling your friends about. Come for the books and beer, stay for the Rioja.

Hudson Taco isn't trying to be a wine destination, but the list is smarter than the setting suggests — a few genuinely interesting picks tucked into a short, taco-friendly lineup. Just know going in that you're paying for the river view as much as what's in the glass, and steer toward the Spanish whites.
