The wine list at The Lobster Bar is exactly what you'd expect from a waterfront seafood spot in Newport — white-heavy, approachable, and built for tourists who want something cold and drinkable with their lobster roll. There's no pretension here, which is either a relief or a disappointment depending on what you're after. It gets the job done.
Twenty labels isn't a lot to work with, and the list leans hard on recognizable names over interesting ones — Santa Margherita, Whispering Angel, Meiomi, Oberon. You're not discovering anything new here. California and France dominate, with a nod to New Zealand via Oyster Bay, and there's a reasonable Sancerre from Grandes Perrieres for those who want something with actual terroir on a seafood menu. The red selection is thin and almost beside the point given the cuisine, but Oberon Cab will keep the meat-and-potatoes crowd happy.
Eighteen by-the-glass options on a 20-bottle list means almost everything pours by the glass, which is genuinely useful when you're splitting dishes and want to play the field. The range runs $10–$35 a pour, with sparkling options including both Taittinger and Veuve Clicquot available by the split or glass. The top end of that glass pricing starts to feel ambitious for a wharf-side casual spot.

This is the most food-focused wine on the list for a shellfish menu. Sancerre and oysters is a classic pairing for a reason, and having it available at a casual Newport seafood spot is the most interesting call the list makes.
Banshee Sauvignon Blanc California
Overshadowed by the Oyster Bay right next to it, Banshee is a more interesting California Sauvignon Blanc with actual winemaking behind it. Most people will default to the New Zealand bottle out of habit — don't.
Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label
At $140 a bottle, you're paying a significant premium over retail for a widely available supermarket Champagne. It's a fine wine, but the markup here is doing the heavy lifting — not the juice.
Grandes Perrieres Sancerre + Oysters on the Half Shell
Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc and raw oysters is one of the great no-brainer pairings in wine. The minerality and bright acidity cut right through the brine. This is the move.
The Bottom Line
The Lobster Bar isn't a wine destination, but it's a perfectly competent list for what the restaurant is — a casual waterfront spot where the lobster is the star. Order the Sancerre, eat the oysters, watch the boats.
