Hotel restaurant wine lists in Napa usually read like they were assembled by a corporate purchasing manager who once visited a winery on vacation. The Elene's list does not. Seventy labels sounds modest, but the curation here is doing real work — this is someone's actual point of view on California wine.
The list leans heavily into coastal California whites and sparkling, and it's better for it. You get a genuine sparkling section worth lingering over — Martin Ray Brut Rosé at $72, Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs at $92, and the Failla 2G Bohan Vineyard Brut from Fort Ross-Seaview at $185, a wine that rarely makes it onto hotel menus. Whites are equally interesting: Grenachista is showing up here (both Grenache Gris and Grenache Blanc), alongside Ryme Vermentino from Carneros, a Gust Dry Riesling from Petaluma Gap, and Desire Lines Cole Ranch Riesling from Mendocino — none of these are crowd-pleasers on autopilot. The list does feel more white-and-sparkling-forward based on the evidence we have, and if you're a Cab hound looking for deep red coverage, you may need to look elsewhere, but for anyone who drinks broadly, this is a refreshing departure from the Napa playbook.
Sixteen by-the-glass options at $15–$45 is a solid spread for a hotel restaurant, and the range appears to reflect the same adventurous instinct as the bottle list. If they're pouring from the same producers on the bottle list — Grenachista, Laurel Glen, Smith Story — then the glass program punches above the usual hotel pour. Rotation details are unknown, but 16 slots gives the kitchen enough flexibility to keep things moving.
Smith Story Olivet Lane Vineyard, Russian River Valley 2021 — $56
The lowest bottle price on the list and it's a Russian River Pinot Noir from a well-regarded small producer. Olivet Lane is a serious site and this is a legitimately good wine at a price that would be fair at a grocery store, let alone in Napa.
Failla 2G, Bohan Vineyard Brut, Fort Ross-Seaview 2016
Failla making sparkling wine from one of California's most windswept coastal sites is the kind of thing that gets wine nerds excited, and most hotel diners will walk right past it. At $185 it's not cheap, but it's genuinely rare and worth the conversation with whoever is pouring.
Roederer Estate L'Ermitage Brut, Anderson Valley 2019
Great wine, no argument there — but at $150 you're paying a premium for a name that shows up on a lot of lists. The Failla or even the Schramsberg at $92 offer more interesting drinking per dollar in this context.
Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc, Russian River Valley 2023 + Oysters or fresh seafood starter
Merry Edwards makes a richer, more textured Sauvignon Blanc than most — it has the acidity to cut through brine but enough body to stand up to a cream-based preparation. At $89 it's a fair ask for one of California's benchmark expressions of the grape.
The Bottom Line
The Elene is doing something genuinely uncommon for a Napa hotel restaurant: it's built a wine list with a real perspective. Pricing is fair, the whites and sparkling section is worth the visit on its own, and if you're tired of being handed the same Napa Cab lineup every time you sit down, this is your spot.
