Steak-Forward, Wine List Plays It Safe

Wingman Metrics
The wine list at The Chop House Murfreesboro reads exactly like you'd expect from a polished chain steakhouse — familiar names, safe bets, nothing that's going to challenge you or surprise you. It's clearly built for the table that wants a Cab with their ribeye and doesn't want to think too hard about it. That's not necessarily a knock, but it does set the ceiling.
The list leans heavily on California and Washington State, which makes sense for a steakhouse crowd — these are wines people recognize and trust. You'll find Stags' Leap Winery Cabernet Sauvignon representing Napa at the higher end, Bogle Cab holding down the value tier, and Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling as a lone nod to Pacific Northwest whites. Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay rounds out the approachable middle ground. What's missing is any real Old World representation — no Bordeaux, no Malbec from Mendoza, no Italian reds to speak of — which leaves the adventurous drinker with nowhere to go.
The by-the-glass program runs 12 to 20 options depending on the season, which is a reasonable spread for a casual steakhouse. Expect the usual suspects — house Chardonnay, a Cab or two, maybe a Merlot — at $8 to $16 a pour. Rotation feels minimal; this is a set-and-forget program, not one with a lot of creative energy behind it.
Bogle Cabernet Sauvignon — $30
Bogle punches above its weight class for everyday California Cab — solid fruit, no sharp edges, and at the lower end of the bottle list it's the move if you're splitting a steak and want something dependable without blowing your budget.
Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling
Most people at a steakhouse skip right past Riesling, which is a mistake. Washington State Riesling has enough acidity and structure to cut through rich dishes, and Ste. Michelle is one of the best values in the category. If you're ordering salmon or a pork chop, this bottle earns its keep.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay
KJ Chardonnay is a $14 bottle at any grocery store. At steakhouse markup, you're paying a significant premium for a wine you could grab on the way home. There's nothing wrong with the wine itself — it's just not worth the restaurant price when better options exist on the same list.
Stags' Leap Winery Cabernet Sauvignon + Ribeye
Stags' Leap Cab brings enough dark fruit and soft tannin structure to stand up to a well-marbled ribeye without overwhelming the beef. It's the list's best bottle for the purpose this restaurant was literally built around — and for once, the classic call is also the right one.
✔️ The Bottom Line
The Chop House Murfreesboro does exactly what it's designed to do: give you a decent glass of California red with your steak at a familiar price point. If you're looking for a wine revelation, you're in the wrong place — but if you just want a solid night out with a reliable pour, it delivers.
Rutherford Blvd · Murfreesboro · Japanese / Sushi
Wasabi is a fun spot for teppanyaki and sushi, but the wine list is an afterthought dressed up as a menu section. Order the plum wine, enjoy the hibachi show, and save the serious bottle for somewhere else.

Downtown Murfreesboro · Murfreesboro · Brewpub
Blackhorse is a genuinely good brewpub, and you should absolutely order a pint. The wine list, though, is purely functional — it exists so the person at the table who doesn't drink beer has something to order, and it doesn't pretend to be anything more than that.

Logan's Roadhouse in Murfreesboro isn't trying to impress you with wine, and it succeeds. Save your wine budget for somewhere that's actually spending a moment thinking about it — here, order the whiskey.

O'Charley's isn't where you come for a wine experience, but if you're here for the food and want a fair pour at a fair price, the list delivers exactly that. Send a friend here for the Wednesday half-price wine night and keep expectations calibrated.

Chili's wine program is a checkbox, not a commitment — and the Murfreesboro location is no exception. Drink the margaritas, eat the ribs, and don't let anyone at the table order the bottle.

Puckett's is a great night out for live music and serious BBQ — but the wine list is here because it has to be, not because anyone really wanted it. Stick to the A. Marshall pours during happy hour and let the food do the talking.

LongHorn Newport News isn't a wine destination — it's a steakhouse where wine is an afterthought, priced to extract margin rather than reward curiosity. Order the ribeye, pick the least-bad bottle, and don't expect anyone at the table to talk about what's in the glass.

Fire & Oak is a hotel steakhouse wine list that does exactly what it's supposed to do: make business travelers feel at home and move bottles that everyone recognizes. If you're expecting something beyond that, you're in the wrong restaurant.
