Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Outback San Marcos is exactly what you'd expect from a chain that built its identity around a bloomin' onion and a fake Australian accent. It's short, familiar, and assembled by a corporate committee somewhere far from Texas. Nothing on this list will surprise you — and that's kind of the point.
Twenty-something bottles, all from the corporate Outback playbook: California, Australia, a nod to Washington State. You've got Josh Cellars Cab, Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay, Layer Cake Malbec — the greatest hits of grocery store wine culture. Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling is the one bright spot that shows some actual regional character. The list has no depth, no old-world presence, no small producers, and zero ambition beyond meeting the lowest common denominator of a family steakhouse crowd.
Eight to twelve pours by the glass, ranging $7–$13, which covers the main bases without any real excitement. You can get in and out without committing to a bottle, which is honestly fine given the options. Rotation appears nonexistent — this list sits still, season after season.
Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling — $9/glass
Washington Riesling from one of the state's most consistent producers. At this price it's the only wine on the list that punches above its weight class and has a reason to exist beyond brand recognition.
Layer Cake Malbec
Most people ordering steak here are grabbing the Josh Cab on autopilot, but the Layer Cake Malbec is the better red call — it's got more fruit density and plays well with a chargrilled Outback Special without demanding your full attention.
Beringer White Zinfandel
There's never a good reason. This is the wine equivalent of ordering a well cocktail at a craft bar — and there isn't even a craft bar here to justify the comparison. Hard pass.
Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling + Alice Springs Chicken
The honey mustard glaze and melted cheese on this dish want something with a little sweetness and brightness to cut through the richness. The Ste. Michelle Riesling is the only wine on this list actually built for that job.
❌ The Bottom Line
Outback San Marcos won't embarrass you if you order a glass with dinner, but you're not here for the wine list and nobody pretends otherwise. Stick to the Riesling or the Malbec and spend your energy on the steak.

Come to Taqueria El Mexicano for the tacos — they're the whole point. The wine list is an afterthought, and that's fine, just don't make it the reason you show up.

Mamacita's is a perfectly decent Tex-Mex spot and the margaritas probably earn their own review — but the wine list is an afterthought and should be treated as one. Come for the fajitas and frozen drinks; leave the wine enthusiasm at home.

This is not a wine destination, and it is not trying to be — the list exists because corporate said it should. Drink a sweet tea or a beer and save your wine order for literally anywhere else in San Marcos.

Logan's Roadhouse exists to sell you a steak, and the wine list knows it. If you're here, order whatever's cold and move on — the food is the point.

This is a wine list that exists because restaurants are expected to have one — full stop. If you're eating at Cheddar's and it's before 7:30 PM on a weekday, grab a $4 glass of whatever during happy hour and call it a day; otherwise, order a beer.

We wouldn't send a friend here for wine under any circumstances — this list exists to check a box, not to enhance your meal. Order a cocktail, drink a beer, and save the wine for somewhere that gives a damn.

LongHorn is a perfectly fine place to eat a steak in Green Bay — just don't expect the wine list to keep up with the kitchen. Order a cocktail, split a bottle of the Malbec if you must, and save the serious wine drinking for somewhere that cares.

E&E Stakeout Grill is a perfectly decent neighborhood steakhouse wine list that asks too much on most nights — but Wine Wednesday flips the math entirely and makes this one of the better value plays in the Clearwater area. Come on a Wednesday, order the Chianti Classico, and you'll have zero complaints.

Texas Roadhouse Billings is not a wine destination, and it doesn't pretend to be — but the gap between the quality of the food and the quality of the wine list is real. Order the Chateau Ste. Michelle, eat the rolls, and save your serious wine curiosity for somewhere that reciprocates it.
