Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Taqueria El Mexicano is exactly what you'd expect from a taqueria that didn't really want to have a wine list. Seven options, all priced at $6.99 a glass, covering the greatest hits of convenience-store wine culture. It's not offensive, it's just... there.
Seven wines, zero surprises. We're talking Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Moscato, White Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a Sangria — the exact lineup you'd find on a gas station shelf in any state in America. No producers are listed, which tells you everything you need to know about how much thought went into sourcing. The region focus is California, which in this context means bulk production wine that checked a box, not a considered choice.
All seven wines are poured by the glass at a flat $6.99, which is at least an honest and unpretentious price point. There's no rotation, no seasonal additions, no attempt to keep things interesting — what's on the list today is what's been on the list for a long time. If you came here for a glass of Sangria with your tacos, you're in the right place and you shouldn't feel bad about it.
Sangria — $6.99
At a taqueria, Sangria is the most contextually appropriate pour on the menu and at $6.99 it's a no-brainer. It's sweet, cold, and it works with spicy food without asking anything of you.
Moscato
Nobody orders Moscato at a taqueria, but a chilled glass cuts through heat and richness better than most people expect. It's not deep, but it does the job.
Cabernet Sauvignon
A heavy, tannic Cab with street tacos is a rough combination, and at this price point you're not getting anything that makes the pairing worth attempting. Order the Sangria.
Moscato + Breakfast Tacos
The slight sweetness in the Moscato plays nicely against chorizo and egg, and the lower alcohol keeps the morning meal from becoming a situation.
❌ The Bottom Line
Come to Taqueria El Mexicano for the tacos — they're the whole point. The wine list is an afterthought, and that's fine, just don't make it the reason you show up.
San Marcos · San Marcos · Tex-Mex
Mamacita's is a perfectly decent Tex-Mex spot and the margaritas probably earn their own review — but the wine list is an afterthought and should be treated as one. Come for the fajitas and frozen drinks; leave the wine enthusiasm at home.

Logan's Roadhouse exists to sell you a steak, and the wine list knows it. If you're here, order whatever's cold and move on — the food is the point.

This is a wine list that exists because restaurants are expected to have one — full stop. If you're eating at Cheddar's and it's before 7:30 PM on a weekday, grab a $4 glass of whatever during happy hour and call it a day; otherwise, order a beer.

We wouldn't send a friend here for wine under any circumstances — this list exists to check a box, not to enhance your meal. Order a cocktail, drink a beer, and save the wine for somewhere that gives a damn.

Tequila's is a solid neighborhood Mexican spot that simply doesn't care about wine, and that's fine — the margaritas are probably doing heavy lifting anyway. Come for the tacos, skip the wine list, and don't let the four Sutter Home options talk you out of a good time.

Mezcalito's isn't a wine destination, but its list punches above its weight on value and has just enough Spanish character to make it interesting. If you're here for tacos, order the Rioja and don't look back.

Mi Mexico is not a wine destination, and it doesn't pretend to be — order a margarita, enjoy your meal, and don't expect the wine list to surprise you. If you absolutely must have wine with your tacos, the Sangria is $6.25 and nobody will judge you.
