Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Sear reads like it was built for the guest who already knows what they want — Caymus, Jordan, Rombauer — and doesn't want to be challenged. It's a greatest-hits reel of California wine, and it does that job without apology. Nothing here is going to surprise you, but nothing is going to embarrass you either.
The list leans hard into Napa and Sonoma Cabernet, which makes sense for a steakhouse but leaves zero room for anyone looking outside the California bubble. Stag's Leap, Jordan, and Caymus anchor the reds, and Rombauer holds down the Chardonnay fort — a classic upscale steakhouse formation. There's no Old World presence to speak of, no Rhône, no Barolo, no Malbec to break up the monotony. If you came hoping to find something off the beaten path, you're eating at the wrong place.
The glass pour program appears to run 8-12 options and mirrors the bottle list — expect Meiomi Pinot Noir and Rombauer Chardonnay as anchors, with a Cab or two rounding things out. There's no evidence of a rotating selection or seasonal additions, which means what you see tonight is probably what you'll see next month. It's functional, not inspired.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley — $75
Jordan consistently punches above its weight — structured, food-friendly, and approachable without being a fruit bomb. At steakhouse pricing it's one of the more honest bottles on the list relative to what you're getting in the glass.
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Most tables here are reaching straight for Caymus, which means Stag's Leap often gets overlooked. That's a mistake — it's more precise, more structured, and frankly more interesting with a dry-aged cut than the bigger, jammier competition on this list.
Meiomi Pinot Noir, California
Meiomi is a $14 bottle at any grocery store, and a steakhouse wine list has no business charging restaurant prices for it. It's sweet, it's soft, and it's going to get steamrolled by anything on the beef menu. Hard pass.
Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley + Dry-Aged Ribeye
The earthy, slightly savory character of Stag's Leap cuts through the fat on a dry-aged ribeye in a way the fruitier Cabs on this list simply don't. The tannin structure holds up to the char and the age-forward beefiness without overwhelming the plate.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Sear is a perfectly competent steakhouse wine list in a market that probably doesn't demand more — it covers the California classics, marks them up accordingly, and calls it a night. Send a friend here if they want a reliable Cab with their steak; tell them to skip it if they're hoping for anything remotely adventurous.

Timbers Lounge is a place to have a drink after a long drive to Mount Rushmore, not a destination for wine. Order a cocktail or a beer and save your wine energy for somewhere that's put in the work.

Mi Mexico is not a wine destination, and it doesn't pretend to be — order a margarita, enjoy your meal, and don't expect the wine list to surprise you. If you absolutely must have wine with your tacos, the Sangria is $6.25 and nobody will judge you.

LongHorn Rapid City is exactly what it is — a reliable chain steakhouse with a wine list that was built by committee and hasn't changed much since. If you're here for the steak, you'll be fine; just aim for the Joel Gott and don't expect the staff to talk you through it.

There is no version of this wine list that warrants a special trip or even a deliberate order — it's a functional corporate program designed to move bottles, not to impress. If you're at Outback for the steak, grab the Alamos Malbec and call it a night; if wine actually matters to you, this is a cocktail dinner.

This is a wine list that exists purely because restaurants are expected to have one. Don't come to Applebee's for wine — but if you're already here and you need a glass, the Mondavi Cab won't embarrass you.

Red Lobster Rapid City's wine list exists to check a box, not to enhance your meal. Order the Riesling if you must, but honestly, a cocktail or a cold draft will serve you better here.

This is a corporate wine list in a corporate steakhouse, and it does exactly what it was built to do: keep wine on the menu without anyone having to think too hard. Come for the Dallas Filet and the bread — and if you must drink wine, hit it on a Wild West Wednesday when it's half off and the math actually makes sense.

Dakotah Steakhouse is a competent neighborhood steakhouse wine list doing exactly what it was designed to do — keep the table happy without anyone having to think too hard. If you're chasing serious wine, drive past it; if you want a decent pour with your buffalo ribeye without drama, it'll get the job done.
