Most people at a chain steakhouse will grab the Meiomi out of habit. Order the Messina Hof instead — it's a Texas producer with actual roots and story, and at $33 it's one of the more interesting bottles on a very predictable list.
Beringer White Zinfandel
At $29 a bottle, you're paying a meaningful markup for a wine that retails for around $7. There is no version of this that's a good deal, and there are better options on this very list.
Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches Chardonnay + Grilled Salmon
The Russian River Ranches is a legitimately good Chardonnay — rich but with enough acidity to cut through grilled fish. It's the one bottle on this list that punches above the chain-restaurant weight class.

Saltgrass College Station is not a wine destination, but it's not a wine disaster either — the by-the-glass count is high, the bottom of the list is accessible, and if you pick smart you'll drink fine. Just don't expect to be surprised.
