Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Mi Mexico is less a list and more a footnote — six options, all at $6.25 a glass, no producers named, no regions indicated. It reads like someone filled out a form in 1997 and nobody has touched it since.
Six labels. That's it. We're talking Pinot Grigio, Cab, Chardonnay, Merlot, White Zinfandel, and Sangria — the Mount Rushmore of uninspired restaurant wine programs, plus two more. No producers are named anywhere, which tells you everything you need to know about the care put into sourcing. There's no regional identity, no attempt to match the wine selection to the cuisine, and no indication that anyone thought hard about what a glass of something cold and slightly fruity might do for a plate of enchiladas.
All six wines are available by the glass, all at $6.25 — a flat-rate pricing structure that's either charmingly democratic or a sign that nobody ran the numbers. Rotation is not a word in this program's vocabulary; what's on the menu today was almost certainly on the menu three years ago.
Sangria — $6.25
At least the Sangria is honest about what it is — a fruity, sweet, casual drink that actually makes sense with spicy Mexican food. It's the one option that feels intentional rather than accidental.
Pinot Grigio
Ordering white wine at a Mexican restaurant feels counterintuitive to most people here, but a cold, neutral Pinot Grigio is genuinely the best foil for heat and salt. Don't overthink it — just order it cold and drink it fast.
White Zinfandel
White Zinfandel in 2024 is a choice, and not a brave one. It's sweet, it clashes with anything savory on the table, and there is simply no scenario where this is the right call.
Cabernet Sauvignon + Carne Asada
A basic Cab with grilled beef is the lowest-risk move on this menu — the wine's fruit and structure at least gesture toward the char and fat of the meat, even if neither element is particularly distinguished.
❌ The Bottom Line
Mi Mexico is not a wine destination, and it doesn't pretend to be — order a margarita, enjoy your meal, and don't expect the wine list to surprise you. If you absolutely must have wine with your tacos, the Sangria is $6.25 and nobody will judge you.
North Rapid City · Rapid City · Hotel Lounge
Timbers Lounge is a place to have a drink after a long drive to Mount Rushmore, not a destination for wine. Order a cocktail or a beer and save your wine energy for somewhere that's put in the work.

LongHorn Rapid City is exactly what it is — a reliable chain steakhouse with a wine list that was built by committee and hasn't changed much since. If you're here for the steak, you'll be fine; just aim for the Joel Gott and don't expect the staff to talk you through it.

There is no version of this wine list that warrants a special trip or even a deliberate order — it's a functional corporate program designed to move bottles, not to impress. If you're at Outback for the steak, grab the Alamos Malbec and call it a night; if wine actually matters to you, this is a cocktail dinner.

This is a wine list that exists purely because restaurants are expected to have one. Don't come to Applebee's for wine — but if you're already here and you need a glass, the Mondavi Cab won't embarrass you.

Red Lobster Rapid City's wine list exists to check a box, not to enhance your meal. Order the Riesling if you must, but honestly, a cocktail or a cold draft will serve you better here.

This is a corporate wine list in a corporate steakhouse, and it does exactly what it was built to do: keep wine on the menu without anyone having to think too hard. Come for the Dallas Filet and the bread — and if you must drink wine, hit it on a Wild West Wednesday when it's half off and the math actually makes sense.

Ancho & Agave is not a wine destination, and it knows it — but Wednesday half-price pours at a fun taco spot is a perfectly good reason to skip the cocktail menu for once. Come for the food, grab the Borsao Rosé, and leave the wine nerd hat at home.

Los Primos is a solid neighborhood Mexican spot, but the wine program is purely incidental — three glasses, no bottles, no story. Stick to the margaritas, which is almost certainly what the kitchen and bar were built around anyway.

Margarita's is a genuinely fun neighborhood spot, but the wine list is an afterthought dressed up as a decision. Come for the fajitas and the cocktails — if you must have wine, grab the Riesling and move on.
