Wingman Metrics
Twenty-six wines on a list in Cumming, Georgia — and about half of them have no business being this interesting. Txakoli from the Basque Coast, Savoie whites, a White Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley: somebody here is paying attention. The price ceiling of $110/bottle and $26/glass means this isn't trying to be a splurge destination, just a genuinely curious one.
The list leans into a loose Mediterranean-meets-Pacific-Northwest thesis and mostly pulls it off. On the Spanish side, you've got the Bodegas Torremoron Tempranillo 2022, Viña Pomal Reserva Tempranillo 2019, Bodegas La Cartuja Garnacha 2021, and the Vega Barcelona Red Blend — solid Iberian representation that fits the cuisine. The whites are where things get genuinely interesting: the Gaintza Getariako Txakolina Hondarrabi Zuri 2023 and the Famille Richel La Combelle Apremont 2023 are the kinds of wines you'd expect to find in a Buckhead wine bar, not a suburban Mediterranean spot. There are gaps — no rosé in the extracted rows despite the category being listed, and the Cabernet section skews conventional — but the curated nature of 26 labels means every slot matters, and most are earning their place.
The entire list is available by the glass, which is either a dream or a logistical question mark depending on turnover. Glass prices run $11–$26, tracking roughly at about a quarter of the bottle price — fair math by restaurant standards. The range by glass is genuinely broad: you can go from an $11/glass Vega Barcelona Red Blend to a $23/glass Willamette Valley Vineyards White Pinot Noir depending on your mood and your wallet.
The Bottom Line
Santa Maria is a genuine surprise for Cumming — a 26-bottle list that manages to be both approachable and quietly adventurous, with fair pricing and some real personality in the whites. We don't have enough intel on the staff or the floor experience to call it a Rager, but the wine program itself earns a Wild Card: it's doing things you wouldn't expect, and that's worth showing up for.

The real headline here is Friday: half-price bottles under $250, which is a legitimately good deal in any zip code. Add a sommelier in a neighborhood grill context and Tin Cup earns a look that most Cumming restaurants don't. We'd go in on a Friday, ask for a recommendation, and let the staff do their job — that's what they're there for.

Gasthaus Tirol isn't a wine bar, and nobody's driving from Atlanta for the list — but for a German restaurant in suburban Cumming, the wine program is legitimately thoughtful in spots. Fair prices across the board, every bottle available by the glass, and a handful of German-specific picks that actually match the menu make this a solid call if you're already there for the schnitzel. Order the Malbec or explore the Dornfelder and you'll leave happy.

GrapeVine's Casual Italian is a solid neighborhood spot where the wine list won't blow your mind but also won't insult your wallet. If the Abruzzo regional thread holds up on the actual menu, there's a decent, food-friendly red waiting for you alongside the Baked Ziti or Chicken Pamplona. Check the menu directly before you go — this one earns its Reliable badge by doing the basics right.

Meadow Grill is doing something genuinely unusual for suburban North Georgia: building a wine list that would turn heads in the city. The whites are the star — Burgundy, Loire, Austria, Alsace, and two Chateauneuf Blancs under one roof — at prices that don't feel punitive. We'd send a wine-curious friend here without hesitation, with the caveat that the red program likely needs the same attention the whites have already received.

Village Italian's wine list is a functional, inoffensive collection that gets the job done without doing anything interesting. The bottle prices are fair, the Italian selections are limited but present, and the single by-the-glass option is a real miss. Come for the pasta; don't come for the wine program.

YAVA is a craft beer joint that remembered wine drinkers exist, and it did a decent job of it. Not a wine destination, but if you're in Cumming and eating live-fire, you won't go thirsty or broke.

Montrose · Houston · Mediterranean
A very large list organized as Boundaries and Frontiers, with a short glass page that includes Champagne, Portuguese wines, port and madeira. Order the $15/glass Gota Branco, or ask about the Luis Seabra Douro red at 90 (unit not posted) from the Portugal pages, and confirm current availability. This unrated guide covers the posted wine list, not service, storage or markups.
Magnificent Mile · Chicago · Mediterranean
A 38-pour glass list with unpriced Champagne and Burgundy-heavy bottle pages behind it. Start with the $14 Tiberio Trebbiano or the $15 Thymiopoulos Assyrtiko, and ask for bottle prices because the posted bottle pages carry none. This unrated guide covers the posted drinks menu, not service, storage or markups.
Miami Beach · Miami · Mediterranean
A big-name list built around Champagne, Bordeaux and Burgundy, with nine glasses from $15 to $25. If you want a glass, take the $24 Louis Latour Chablis or the $18 Black Stallion Cabernet; for a bottle, confirm the price first, since the bottle pages print no unit and the list is undated. This unrated guide covers the posted drinks selection, not service, storage or markups.
