Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Maggiano's Naperville feels exactly like the restaurant itself: big, familiar, and built to make a lot of people happy without taking many risks. You flip through it expecting surprises and find comfortable, bankable names instead. That's not necessarily a knock — it just means you know what you're walking into.
The list clocks in at 100-plus bottles with a California-heavy backbone and a nod toward Italy that feels more decorative than serious. Ruffino shows up flying the Italian flag, which is fine, but don't come here expecting a deep Barolo bench or anything from southern Italy worth getting excited about. The Orin Swift and J. Lohr presence — surfacing mainly in wine pairing dinner events — signals the kitchen knows how to work with bigger, riper American reds, even if those bottles don't always make the permanent list. Gaps in Burgundy, Rhône, and anything remotely esoteric are wide enough to drive a pasta cart through.
Fifteen to twenty-five pours by the glass is a solid count, and there's enough range to get through a multi-course family-style dinner without doubling up. The Mionetto Prosecco Rosé is a smart opener for the table — easy, crowd-friendly, and priced to say yes to. Rotation appears limited; this reads more like a set-and-forget program than one someone is actively curating.
Mionetto Prosecco Rosé DOC — $12
Approachable, food-friendly, and light enough to survive Maggiano's portion sizes without weighing you down — it's the right glass to start the evening and won't hurt the wallet.
Ruffino DOC
Easy to dismiss as a generic Italian staple, but at a place built around red-sauce classics, a well-made Tuscan red from a reliable house like Ruffino can punch above its reputation — especially next to the Chicken Parmesan.
14 Hands Merlot
A mass-market Washington Merlot that retails for around $12 and gets marked up to restaurant territory with nothing interesting to show for it. There are better options on this list for the same money.
Ruffino DOC + Mom's Lasagna
A medium-bodied Italian red with enough acidity to cut through the ricotta and meat layers without competing with the tomato — it's the least complicated decision you'll make all night.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Maggiano's Naperville is a reliable wine stop the same way a highway rest area is a reliable food stop — it works, no one's going out of their way for it, but you won't leave thirsty. If the table is ordering family-style and everyone needs a glass in hand, this list gets the job done.
Downtown Naperville · Naperville · American pub / burgers
Jackson Avenue Pub is not a wine destination, but Wine Wednesdays at half-price make it a legitimately smart stop if you're already there for a burger and a game. Come for the beer, stay for the deal.

Freedom Commons / I-88 Corridor · Naperville · Seafood and Steakhouse
Hugo's Naperville is a reliable, well-run steakhouse wine program that will not let you down and will not excite you. Come for the prime beef and oysters, order the Jordan or the Duckhorn, and don't look too hard at the markup on the Pinot Grigio.

Fat Rosie's is a genuinely fun taco and tequila spot that has no business being reviewed for its wine — and that's kind of the point. If your table wants wine, order cocktails instead and save everyone the disappointment.

Vasili's isn't trying to be a wine destination, but the Greek-focused list has enough genuine producers and interesting grapes to reward curious drinkers — especially on Tuesdays when the bottles go half-price. Watch the markups on the Agiorgitiko, lean into the northern Greek reds and the Malagousia, and you'll eat and drink very well along that riverwalk.

Naperville · Naperville · Chicago-style pizzeria / Italian-American
Lou Malnati's is a legitimately iconic pizza destination — but the wine list is an afterthought, marked up on cheap bottles with zero curation or ambition. Come for the deep dish, drink beer, and save the wine night for somewhere that cares.

Hotel Arista / CityGate Centre · Naperville · Italian
Che Figata is the rare suburban hotel restaurant with a wine list worth actually engaging with — Italian-focused, sommelier-guided, and broad enough to reward exploration. The markups sting on a few bottles, but the range and program depth make this the best wine bet in Naperville's CityGate orbit.

Olive Garden is not a wine destination and was never trying to be one — the list exists to move bottles, not to inspire anyone. Order the Il Grigio if you want something worth drinking, otherwise stick to the Chianti and save your wine energy for somewhere else.

Oyster Point / Jefferson Avenue · Newport News · Italian-American
This is a wine list built for people who aren't thinking about the wine, and there's no shame in that — but there's also no reason to seek it out. Order the Chianti, enjoy the breadsticks, and save your wine curiosity for somewhere that's earned it.

D'Agnese's is a reliable neighborhood Italian that plays it safe on wine but earns its keep on Tuesday, when half-price bottles turn a steep list into a genuinely good deal. Come on a weekday, order the Chianti, skip the Meiomi, and enjoy your veal parm.
