You walk into Lola's expecting a lunch counter with iced tea and maybe a house red — and then the wine list shows up with a Mâcon-Verzé and a Ribera del Duero. It's a genuine surprise. For a casual café in Poughkeepsie where most people are ordering wraps and bowls, someone here is actually paying attention.
Thirteen wines isn't a deep cellar, but the picks punch above their weight class. There's a Standing Stone Finger Lakes Riesling repping local Hudson Valley wine country, a Panizzi Chianti Colli Senesi for the Italy crowd, and a Viña Sastre 'Roble' Ribera del Duero that you'd be happy to see at a dedicated wine bar. The Nicolas Maillet Mâcon-Verzé is a legitimately good Burgundy Chardonnay that has no business sitting next to a turkey panini — and yet, here we are. The Freakshow Cabernet and Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc keep the crowd-pleasers happy, but the list never fully tips into airport-wine territory. The Kumeu River Pinot Noir from New Zealand is an interesting outlier that gives the list some real personality.
Ten by-the-glass options at $8–$12 is a solid spread for a café operating in this price range. That's not a token gesture — that's most of the list available by the pour, which means you can try the Mâcon-Verzé alongside your lunch without committing to a bottle. Rotation doesn't appear to be a big thing here, but at these prices, it's hard to complain.
Standing Stone Finger Lakes Riesling 2024 — $10/glass
Finger Lakes Riesling at café prices is a no-brainer. Standing Stone is a reliable producer and this vintage is likely bright and off-dry enough to cut through anything on the menu. Drinking local and drinking well for under $10 a glass is exactly what we're here for.
Nicolas Maillet Mâcon-Verzé Chardonnay 2023
Most people at a sandwich café are going to reach for the Whitehaven or the Freakshow because the names are familiar. Skip those and order the Maillet. Mâcon-Verzé is Southern Burgundy doing Chardonnay the right way — mineral, restrained, no oak sledgehammer. It's the most interesting pour on the list and most people will walk right past it.
Freakshow Cabernet
Freakshow is a marketing-first, grocery-store-shelf Cabernet that relies on its label doing the heavy lifting. It's not terrible, but it's the laziest pick on an otherwise thoughtful list, and at café markup it's still not a deal. The Viña Sastre Tempranillo is right there and it's a far more interesting bottle for your money.
Panizzi Chianti Colli Senesi Sangiovese 2020 + Spicy Peanut Noodles
Sangiovese's natural acidity and light tannin structure actually hold their own against bold, umami-rich flavors without overwhelming them. The Panizzi is food-friendly by design, and the earthiness of the Chianti plays surprisingly well against the richness of a peanut-based sauce. It's an unexpected combo that works.

Lola's Cafe is the café wine list that shouldn't exist but does — and we respect it. If you're hitting the Walkway Over the Hudson and want a glass of actual wine with your lunch, this is the move.

Olive Garden's wine list is exactly what you'd expect from a national chain that considers breadsticks the main event — functional, safe, and completely unambitious. Come for the pasta, drink the Chianti Classico, and don't expect anything more.

Heritage punches well above its strip-mall expectations with a lean but genuinely thoughtful wine list that sneaks in orange wine, old-vine Verdejo, and Loire Chenin between the Prosecco and the GunBun Cab. If you're in the Hudson Valley and want a low-risk way to drink something interesting by the glass without a big commitment, this list earns the stop.
