Wingman Metrics
Walk into a British pub expecting cask ale and you might clock the wine list as an afterthought — and you'd be half right. Nine labels, all available by the glass, priced between $6 and $9. It's compact, it's unpretentious, and it knows what it is.
The list leans heavily California with a few Italian ringers and a lone German Riesling from Moselland to keep things honest. You've got your DeLoach Pinot Noir, a Castle Rock Merlot, R Collection Cab, and the Avalon Red Blend covering the red side — recognizable, approachable, nothing that's going to start a conversation. The Tiamo Prosecco is a smart addition for a pub setting, and the Moselland Ars Vitis Riesling is the one wild card on a list that otherwise plays it very safe. Gaps are obvious: no rosé, nothing from Spain or South America, zero skin-contact or natural options.
All nine bottles are available by the glass, which is genuinely the right call for a pub crowd that wants one pour with their shepherd's pie and not a full commitment. Prices run $6 to $9, which is honest money — the Avalon Red Blend at $6 a glass is the kind of pour you can order without doing mental math. Rotation doesn't appear to be a thing here; this list looks like it was set and left alone.
Avalon Red Blend — $6/glass, $20/bottle
At $6 a glass this is about as low-stakes as wine gets at a sit-down restaurant. It's a serviceable California red blend that does exactly what a pub wine should — it stays out of the way and lets the bangers and mash do the talking.
Moselland Ars Vitis Riesling
Nobody ordering at a Rockford British pub is expecting a Mosel Riesling on the menu, and that's exactly why it's interesting. Off-dry, crisp, low alcohol — it's a genuinely smart pick that most people will walk right past to grab a Chardonnay.
Flint & Steel Sauvignon Blanc
At $9 a glass and $28 a bottle it's the most expensive pour on the list, and Flint & Steel Sauvignon Blanc is a perfectly ordinary California SB that doesn't justify sitting at the top of the price range. The DeLoach Pinot is the same price and a better use of the money.
Moselland Ars Vitis Riesling + Fish and Chips
The slight residual sweetness and high acidity in the Riesling cuts through the fried batter and lifts the flaky fish — it's the same logic as a lager with fish and chips, just with more character. Classic combo, even if nobody here is ordering it that way.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Hope & Anchor isn't a wine destination and it's not trying to be — but the prices are fair, the glass program covers all nine bottles, and there's a Riesling hiding in there for the curious. Come for the pint, stay for the shepherd's pie, and don't overthink the wine list.

Crave is a solid neighborhood restaurant with a wine list that plays it safe and charges accordingly — you won't drink badly here, but you'll pay for the comfort of familiarity. Send a friend if they want a reliable Cab with their steak; don't send them if they're hunting for something interesting.

Ciao Bella isn't going to blow any minds with its wine program, but it's honest, fairly priced, and the Wine Down Wednesday deal on bottles over $40 is legitimately one of the better weekly wine promos in the area. Show up on a Wednesday, order something Italian, and you'll leave happy.

Garrett's wine list is exactly what it needs to be for a casual upscale spot next to a driving range — familiar, drinkable, and mostly harmless. Just go in knowing you're paying for comfort and convenience, not discovery.

Thunder Bay Grille is a reliable dinner out, not a wine destination — the list is built for comfort, not curiosity. If you're in Rockford and want a solid steak with a recognizable glass of red, you won't leave unhappy, but don't expect any revelations.

Giovanni's is the wine list equivalent of finding a great record collection in your uncle's basement — unexpected, occasionally overpriced, but with enough genuinely special bottles that you have to respect the effort. If you're in Rockford and care about what's in your glass, this is where you go.

SALT. is doing something genuinely surprising for its market — a tight, Old World-leaning wine list in a cocktail bar where most places would just slap on a Meiomi and call it a day. If you're in Rockford and you care about what's in your glass, this is your spot.

The Olde English Pub isn't a wine destination, but it's not trying to be — and the fair pricing and recognizable pours make it a perfectly decent place to have a glass alongside a pint and some bar food. Send your friend here for the atmosphere and the beer; the wine is just a bonus that won't embarrass anyone.

Iron Horse Tavern is one of the best pubs in Gwinnett County: 130-year-old brick, darts, a fireplace, live music, and proper British pub food. But the wine offering is effectively nonexistent. Stick with the draft beer and the Scotch. You will have a great night.
