Wingman Metrics
You're next to a golf superstore in Rockford, so no one's expecting a Grand Cru cellar — and Garrett's doesn't pretend to be one. The list is short, recognizable, and built squarely for the after-round crowd who wants a Cab they've heard of. It's comfortable, if a little predictable.
California dominates from top to bottom, with Pacific Northwest making a cameo appearance. The anchor names — Caymus, Jordan, Meiomi — tell you exactly who this list is written for: guests who want a brand name on the table, not a discovery. There's nothing wrong with that, but if you're hunting for anything outside the mainstream California corridor, you'll come up empty. The bottle count sits in the 30-60 range, which is respectable for a casual bar and grill, but the depth isn't really there — it's width through repetition of the same lane.
Eight to fifteen options by the glass is a solid spread for this format, and the usual suspects are likely well-represented. Don't expect a rotating program or anything off the beaten path — what's on the pour list today is probably what was on it six months ago. It gets the job done for a weeknight glass with a salad or sandwich.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon — $65
Jordan is a legitimately quality bottle that holds its own against far pricier California Cabs. In a list that skews toward markup territory, this is where your money actually goes somewhere — you're getting a wine with real structure and age-worthiness, not just a famous label on thin juice.
Meiomi Pinot Noir
Meiomi gets eye-rolls from wine snobs, but at a golf-adjacent bar and grill in the Midwest, it's actually the most food-friendly pour on the list. It's soft, approachable, and works across the menu in a way that a heavy Cab simply doesn't. Order it without apology.
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus is everywhere, and restaurants know it. That ubiquity means the markup is almost always punishing — you're paying a premium for the name recognition, not the wine in the glass. At Garrett's price range, you can do better with Jordan and actually get something worth the spend.
Jordan Cabernet Sauvignon + Classic House Salad with a steak add-on
Jordan's structure and dark fruit hold up to beef without steamrolling lighter plates. If you're going half-salad, half-protein — which is exactly what this menu is built for — Jordan threads that needle better than a bolder Caymus would.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Garrett's wine list is exactly what it needs to be for a casual upscale spot next to a driving range — familiar, drinkable, and mostly harmless. Just go in knowing you're paying for comfort and convenience, not discovery.
East State Street / Perryville corridor · Rockford · Contemporary American, upscale casual
Crave is a solid neighborhood restaurant with a wine list that plays it safe and charges accordingly — you won't drink badly here, but you'll pay for the comfort of familiarity. Send a friend if they want a reliable Cab with their steak; don't send them if they're hunting for something interesting.

Ciao Bella isn't going to blow any minds with its wine program, but it's honest, fairly priced, and the Wine Down Wednesday deal on bottles over $40 is legitimately one of the better weekly wine promos in the area. Show up on a Wednesday, order something Italian, and you'll leave happy.

Thunder Bay Grille is a reliable dinner out, not a wine destination — the list is built for comfort, not curiosity. If you're in Rockford and want a solid steak with a recognizable glass of red, you won't leave unhappy, but don't expect any revelations.

Giovanni's is the wine list equivalent of finding a great record collection in your uncle's basement — unexpected, occasionally overpriced, but with enough genuinely special bottles that you have to respect the effort. If you're in Rockford and care about what's in your glass, this is where you go.

SALT. is doing something genuinely surprising for its market — a tight, Old World-leaning wine list in a cocktail bar where most places would just slap on a Meiomi and call it a day. If you're in Rockford and you care about what's in your glass, this is your spot.

Hope & Anchor isn't a wine destination and it's not trying to be — but the prices are fair, the glass program covers all nine bottles, and there's a Riesling hiding in there for the curious. Come for the pint, stay for the shepherd's pie, and don't overthink the wine list.
