Grace at Carnegie House

The list at Grace reads like someone curated it with a cautious hand — plenty of recognizable names, nothing that's going to startle anyone, and a structure that tells you the kitchen is the star here. At 25 labels, it's compact, and the breakdown into sparkling, white, rosé, red, and premium sections signals a desire to be organized rather than adventurous. For State College, it clears the bar; for a fine dining room, it just clears it.

There are genuine bright spots buried in here. The Karthäuserhof Riesling 2021 from Mosel is a legitimate find, and the Zum Martin Grüner Veltliner SEPP 2022 shows someone on the team has a passing interest in European whites beyond the usual suspects. The reds lean heavily American — Decoy, Duckhorn, Twenty Rows — with a few international detours in the Domaine du Theron Cahors, Tua Rita's Rosso dei Notri from Tuscany, and the Quinta da Mariposa from Portugal. That Cahors and the Tua Rita suggest there's more curiosity here than the surface lets on, but the list overall still plays to the crowd. Two Sauvignon Blancs and two Pinot Grigios on a 25-bottle list is a choice.

The list is organized with a clear by-the-glass section covering sparkling, whites, and reds, though specific pour prices aren't published on the website. The sparkling trio — La Marca Prosecco, a Cava Reserva Brut, and Bouvet Brut Rosé — covers the aperitivo bases without much ambition. Glass program depth here is functional, not exciting.
