Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Gather is short — eleven bottles, all available by the glass — and it reads like something designed to keep things simple and familiar. There's no pretension here, which is fine, but there's also not much to get excited about. What you see is exactly what you get.
The list leans heavily California, with a few recognizable names like Cambria, Carmel Road, and Brassfield Estate carrying the red side of the menu. There's a token Italian entry in the Castello Del Trebbio Chianti and a solid Albariño from Cadre to add a little texture on the white side. The glaring gap is anything with real age or regional depth — no Rhône, no Rioja, no Southern Hemisphere to speak of. This is a list built for comfort, not curiosity.
Every wine on the list is available by the glass, which is convenient but also tells you this isn't a cellar program — it's a pour-and-go setup. Prices run from $11 for the Paris Valley Road Sauvignon Blanc up to an eyebrow-raising $63 for the Table Eleven Syrah, which is a dramatic jump with nothing in between to bridge the gap. The mid-range sweet spot sits around $12–$16 and covers most of your bases.
Castello Del Trebbio Sangiovese 'Chianti' 2022 — $13
Thirteen dollars for a named Chianti from a Tuscan estate is a reasonable ask, and it's the one wine on the list that gives you a real sense of place. In a sea of California blends, it stands out as an honest pour at a fair price.
Cadre Albariño 'Sea Queen'
Most tables at a New American spot in McKinney are going to reach for the Chardonnay or Cab, but the Sea Queen Albariño is the sleeper pick here. Albariño brings acidity and salinity that cuts through rich food better than anything else on the white side of this list.
Table Eleven Syrah
Sixty-three dollars a glass is a serious ask for any wine, and without bottle pricing context or provenance information to justify it, this feels like a number that was placed on the menu to anchor the rest of the list. Unless the server can tell you exactly why this Syrah is worth nearly five times the entry-level pour, walk past it.
Carmel Road Pinot Noir 2022 + Roasted Chicken or Duck (New American entrée)
Carmel Road's Monterey Pinot has the bright acidity and red fruit character to cut through roasted poultry without overpowering it — a classic match that works well in a New American context where lighter proteins tend to anchor the menu.
The Bottom Line
Gather isn't trying to be a wine destination, and that's okay — but the $63 Syrah by the glass and the static, California-heavy list suggest the program hasn't been pushed in a while. Stick to the mid-tier pours, order the Chianti, and enjoy it for what it is: a casual neighborhood spot where the wine won't derail the evening.
· McKinney · Italian
Brio McKinney's wine list won't win any awards and the markup will sting if you reach for the California heavyweights, but there are a few genuinely Italian picks buried in there worth finding. Come for the food, order thoughtfully, and stick to the Old World side of the list.

Cadillac Pizza Pub won't change how you think about wine, but it won't ruin your night either. Grab the Chianti with your pizza, skip the KJ Chardonnay, and enjoy the fact that you can get a decent glass for $8.

· McKinney · American Asian Fusion
Kona Grill McKinney is not a wine destination, and it knows it — this list exists to sell bottles, not to educate or excite. The by-the-glass depth is legitimately useful, but if you're somebody who cares about what's in your glass, manage expectations before you sit down.

Craig Ranch / SH 121 · McKinney · American / Brewhouse
BJ's McKinney is a beer destination with a wine list that exists mostly as a formality — the Wednesday half-price deal is the only reason to engage with it seriously. Come for the craft beer and the Pazookie; the wine is just along for the ride.

P.F. Chang's wine list won't win any awards, but it's doing exactly what it needs to do for a busy suburban dinner crowd. Don't come here for a wine experience — but don't write it off either, especially if you know what to order.

SH 121 Corridor · McKinney · Steakhouse / American
Saltgrass McKinney is a reliable spot for a Texas-style steak, but the wine list is clearly not why anyone is driving out here. Unless you're sticking to the J. Lohr Pinot or talking someone into splitting the Hampton Water, you're better off ordering a cocktail and calling it a night.

Copper Spoon proves you don't need a 200-bottle binder to run a thoughtful wine program — you just need to care about what you put on the list. For Fort Wayne, this is genuinely one of the better places to order a bottle without second-guessing yourself.

Mathews isn't a destination wine list, but it's honest, fairly priced, and more thoughtful than it looks at first glance. Send a friend here if they want a good glass without a lecture.

Western Addition · San Francisco · New American
Progress isn't trying to be the biggest wine list in San Francisco — it's trying to be the most interesting one, and it largely succeeds. If you want Napa Cab and familiar labels, go somewhere else; if you want to drink Grignolino and Furmint with dinner and feel genuinely good about the prices, this is your room.
