Come for the Beer, Skip the Wine

Wingman Metrics
The wine list at BJ's McKinney reads exactly like you'd expect from a national brewhouse chain — a tight roster of grocery-store recognizables tucked behind a 20-page beer menu. Nobody's walking through that door with Burgundy on their mind, and the list doesn't pretend otherwise. Credit where it's due: at least they're not hiding what they are.
The list is almost entirely California-focused, leaning on workhorse labels like Dark Horse Cabernet, Hess Select Chardonnay, and DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon, with a token nod to Italy via Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio. DAOU is the most serious bottle on the menu, which says something about the ceiling here. There are no independent producers, no regional discovery, and no real surprise — this is airport-terminal wine selection with table service. If you're hoping to find a Malbec or a Grenache or literally anything off the beaten path, adjust expectations accordingly.
Eight to twelve pours are available, which sounds generous until you realize most of them are interchangeable crowd-pleasers you've seen in every chain restaurant from here to Applebee's. The half-price wine deal on Wednesdays is the real move — at half off, the math actually makes sense and the quality bar becomes a lot easier to clear. Without that discount, the by-the-glass program is perfectly forgettable.
DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon — N/A — order on Wednesday at half off
DAOU is the only bottle on this list that punches above its weight. It's a genuine Paso Robles Cab with structure and presence, and the only pick here that could hold its own in a real wine conversation. Grab it on half-price Wednesday and you're actually doing well.
Hess Select Chardonnay
In the context of this list, Hess Select is quietly the most food-friendly white. It's not flashy, but it has enough texture to stand up to BJ's richer dishes without falling apart — and most people at this table are ordering the Dark Horse out of name recognition alone.
Apothic Red Winemaker's Blend
Apothic Red is built for people who want their wine to taste like dessert before dessert. It's sweet, it's heavy, and it costs the same as nearly every other bottle on this list. There is no scenario where this is the right call.
DAOU Cabernet Sauvignon + Tri-Tip & Ribs Combo
The only wine on this list with enough backbone to keep up with a plate of slow-cooked ribs and sliced tri-tip. DAOU's dark fruit and firm structure do actual work here — it's the one pairing on this menu that feels intentional rather than accidental.
Wednesday — BJ's national Daily Brewhouse Specials program includes half-off wine on bottles and glasses on Wednesdays at participating locations, including this McKinney unit. Historical promotions also referenced Tuesday half-off bottles from 4–9 PM, but the current standardized program lists Wednesday. Confirm with the location directly.
❌ The Bottom Line
BJ's McKinney is a beer destination with a wine list that exists mostly as a formality — the Wednesday half-price deal is the only reason to engage with it seriously. Come for the craft beer and the Pazookie; the wine is just along for the ride.
SH 75 Corridor · McKinney · Asian Bistro
P.F. Chang's wine list won't win any awards, but it's doing exactly what it needs to do for a busy suburban dinner crowd. Don't come here for a wine experience — but don't write it off either, especially if you know what to order.

SH 121 Corridor · McKinney · Steakhouse / American
Saltgrass McKinney is a reliable spot for a Texas-style steak, but the wine list is clearly not why anyone is driving out here. Unless you're sticking to the J. Lohr Pinot or talking someone into splitting the Hampton Water, you're better off ordering a cocktail and calling it a night.

Craig Ranch / SH 121 · McKinney · Tex-Mex / Mexican
Blue Goose is a perfectly fun Tex-Mex night out — just don't come here for the wine. Order a margarita, eat the tamales, and save your wine curiosity for somewhere that returns the favor.

West McKinney / Custer Area · McKinney · New York-style pizzeria
Durkin's is a legitimately good pizza spot that happens to have a wine list in the same way a convenience store has a wine list — it's there, it's functional, and nobody's proud of it. Come for the pies, order the beer, and if you must have wine, go Louis Martini and don't overthink it.

Adriatica Village · McKinney · Seafood & American
Harry's is a reliable neighborhood anchor for McKinney — the kind of place you bring out-of-town family without stressing about it. The wine list won't blow anyone's mind, but it won't embarrass you either; just steer clear of the grocery-store staples and lean toward the upper end of the bottle list.

Downtown / East Louisiana St. · McKinney · Casual American
The Yard is a patio-and-games spot first, wine bar never — and the list is honest about that. Come for the atmosphere, order the Murphy Goode if you want wine, and save the serious bottle for somewhere else.

SanTan Village · Gilbert · American / Brewhouse
BJ's Gilbert is a beer destination that happens to sell wine, and the list reflects exactly that level of effort. Come for the craft brews and the Pizookie — but if Wednesday rolls around and you want a glass of Cab with your deep dish, the half-price deal makes it a perfectly acceptable call.

BJ's Chandler is a brewhouse first and a wine destination never — the list exists to check a box, not to excite anyone. Order a craft beer, or if you must have wine, grab the Ste. Michelle Riesling and move on with your life.

Sherwood Mall / North Stockton · Stockton · American / Brewhouse
BJ's is a great brewhouse that happens to have wine on the menu as an afterthought, and that's fine — just order the beer. If wine is non-negotiable, show up on a Tuesday and keep your expectations calibrated to the surroundings.
