Doc Ponds is unmistakably a beer-and-burgers joint first — and it doesn't pretend otherwise. But flip to the wine list and there's a quiet effort happening: a tight roster that reaches past the obvious into Austria and pulls a few California names worth knowing. It's not a wine destination, but it's trying harder than the vibe suggests.
The list runs about 20-35 bottles split between California, Italy, and Austria — an unusual triangle that actually works. The Austrian angle is the most interesting move here: Zum Grüner Veltliner and Pratsch Zweigelt show someone did more than dial their distributor's default order. Italy brings the expected Prosecco and Pinot Grigio (Valdinevola), while California covers the crowd with Camp Chardonnay and Folk Machine Rosé. The Doc Ponds House Red Blend and Archer Roose Cab are obvious concessions to the burger crowd, which is fine — that's who's eating here.
Eight to fourteen options by the glass is a respectable count for a Mountain Road gastropub, and the spread tracks the bottle list well. You can get into Grüner or Zweigelt by the glass, which puts Doc Ponds ahead of most Vermont casual spots. No rotating program or weekly pour specials visible, so what you see is what you get — consistently.

Grüner at a ski-town gastropub is a small miracle. This Austrian classic — crisp, peppery, made for food — usually shows up at spots charging twice the cover. Order it with anything fried and feel smug about it.
Pratsch Zweigelt
Most people at Doc Ponds are reaching for the house red or a beer, which means this Austrian Zweigelt — juicy, low-tannin, genuinely food-friendly — just sits there for the taking. It's the kind of red that works with a burger without fighting it.
Archer Roose Cabernet
Canned wine at a bar is fine in concept, but when there's a Zweigelt and a Grüner on the same list, ordering the canned Chilean Cab feels like choosing a drive-thru across the street from a good diner.
Pratsch Zweigelt + Burger
Zweigelt's bright acidity and soft tannins cut through the fat without the weight of a Cab — it makes the burger taste beefier and keeps the wine honest. This is the move.
The Bottom Line
Doc Ponds isn't where you go to geek out on wine, but it's a better-than-expected list for a lively Mountain Road pub — especially if you lean Austrian. Send a friend here knowing they won't be stuck drinking bad wine between ski runs.
