Walking into Cora's inside the White House Hotel, there's genuine atmosphere — beachfront Biloxi, historic bones, Gulf breeze energy. Then the wine list lands and it's... familiar. Very familiar. The kind of familiar where you've seen every label at a grocery store end cap.
The list pulls from France, Italy, New Zealand, and the US, but the producers tell the real story: Josh Cellars, Meiomi, B.R. Cohn, La Marca. These are volume brands that move because people recognize them, not because anyone curated them. Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc is the one pick that shows a little range — it's a crowd pleaser too, but at least it's a crowd pleaser with a passport. The sparkling section is actually the most interesting corner of the list, with Gruet and multiple Champagne options including Dom Pérignon, though you're paying hotel event pricing across the board.
The glass program runs 10-18 options with prices from $7 to $25, which sounds accessible until you do the math on some of the pours. At $9 a glass for Gruet Brut — a $18 retail bottle — you're looking at a 300% markup before you've even touched your crab cake. The Veuve at $25/glass is technically the most "premium" pour but still stings given retail is $60 a bottle.
Veuve Clicquot Rosé NV — $155/bottle
By bottle pricing standards, this is actually the least offensive markup on the list — roughly 2x retail at $75. In a lineup of 200-350% glass pour markups, a Champagne rosé at just over double retail is genuinely the best deal Cora's offers.
Gruet Brut NV
Most people skip past the house sparkling to reach for Veuve, but Gruet — made in New Mexico by a French family — is legitimately good bubbly at a fraction of the price. Order it as a toast wine or aperitif and save your money for the Gulf shrimp.
Cavicchioli Sweet Sparkling
At $43 a bottle for a $12 retail wine, this is a 258% markup on something you'd find in the grocery store checkout aisle. It's the weakest value proposition on the list by a wide margin and the wine itself isn't worth the stretch.
Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc + Gulf shrimp
Cloudy Bay's citrus snap and clean acidity cuts right through the briny sweetness of Gulf shrimp without getting in the way. It's the one wine on this list that actually feels like it belongs next to coastal seafood.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Cora's is a perfectly fine place to have a glass of something cold while looking at the Gulf, but don't come expecting a wine program that matches the hotel's historic ambition. Stick to the bubbly by the bottle, order the seafood, and enjoy the view.

Come on a Thursday, sit near the water, and drink better than the list's sticker prices would suggest.
