The name 'Sea Grapes Wine Café' promises something coastal and curated — maybe some interesting Provençal finds or a rotating slate of bottles worth talking about. What you actually get is a nine-bottle list that reads like the Murphy Goode section of a mid-tier grocery store. It's not offensive, but it's not a wine café either.
Six of the nine bottles on this list are Murphy Goode — Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Pinot Noir, all at $56 a bottle. That's not a wine program, that's a brand partnership. The two bright spots are the Chateau Minuty Moments Côtes de Provence ($55) and the Domaine Ott By Ott Côtes de Provence ($78), which at least signal someone here has heard of a wine map. Taittinger Brut Réserve NV rounds out the sparkling category and is the only bottle that genuinely earns its place. Outside of the Provençal rosés and the Champagne, there's no depth, no regional curiosity, and no reason to think the list will look any different six months from now.
All nine bottles are available by the glass, priced $15–$22, which means the entire list is the by-the-glass list. That's either refreshingly honest or a sign that the ambition stops at 'open it up.' When every pour is a Murphy Goode varietal, the rotation doesn't need much managing.
Chateau Minuty Moments Côtes de Provence AOP — $55
At $55 it's the most fairly priced bottle on the list and the most interesting wine here by a mile. Minuty is a serious Provence producer, and this is the entry-level expression — bright, dry, and actually worth ordering in a place like this.
Taittinger Brut Réserve NV
At $105 it's the priciest bottle on the list, but Taittinger Brut Réserve is a legitimate Champagne house and this is a real bottle of real Champagne. In a list otherwise built on middle-shelf California, it sticks out like a tuxedo at a cookout — in the best way.
Murphy Goode Pinot Noir
Fifty-six dollars for Murphy Goode Pinot Noir is a hard sell anywhere. This is a $12–$15 retail bottle that's pulling well above its weight class on the menu. Pass.
Domaine Ott By Ott Côtes de Provence + Charcuterie or small plates
Domaine Ott's second label is still a proper Provençal rosé — structured, dry, with enough acidity to cut through cured meats and soft cheeses. It's the move if you're grazing through small plates and want a bottle that can hold the table.
The Bottom Line
Sea Grapes Wine Café has a name that promises more than it delivers — if you're here for wine, the Minuty rosé or the Taittinger are your only real reasons to engage with the list. Otherwise, order a cocktail and let the list be someone else's problem.
