When the margarita is the better call

Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Chili's Lakeland is exactly what you'd expect: a laminated afterthought tucked behind the cocktail menu. We're talking a handful of names you'd recognize from a gas station cooler, priced just low enough to feel casual. Nobody's coming here for the wine, and the list doesn't try to argue otherwise.
We counted somewhere between 10 and 15 options, all California-focused in the loosest sense of the term — meaning Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi and Barefoot Cabernet are carrying the whole weight. There's no regional depth, no interesting producers, no attempt to venture outside the comfort zone of major national brands. If you've ever stood in the $8 section of a grocery store wine aisle, you've already seen this list. Gaps? The entire world outside of recognizable California labels.
Six to ten pours by the glass at $6–$12, which sounds generous until you realize it's essentially the full list. The price point keeps things accessible, but accessible and interesting aren't the same thing — this is a rotation built for people who just want something wet and vaguely wine-shaped with their ribs.
Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Chardonnay — $7
It's the best of a limited field. Woodbridge Chardonnay is inoffensive, consistent, and honestly fine for a casual weeknight out. At this price, you're not losing money, just ambition.
Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Chardonnay
Not a hidden gem by any stretch, but if you're scanning this list for something that won't actively disappoint you, this is it. Lean into the unpretentious moment.
Barefoot Cabernet Sauvignon
Barefoot Cab at a restaurant markup, however modest, is still more than you'd pay at the grocery store for a bottle. There's no upside here — save it for a tailgate.
Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi Chardonnay + Margarita Grilled Chicken
The citrus and light oak in the Chardonnay won't fight the lime-forward marinade on the grilled chicken. It's not a revelation, but it's the most coherent combination on a list with few good options.
❌ The Bottom Line
Chili's wine list exists to check a box, not to enhance your dinner. Order a margarita — it's what they actually care about — and save the wine conversation for somewhere that's having it back.

Cracker Barrel's wine program exists in the same way the decorative horseshoes on the wall exist — for atmosphere, not function. Order the biscuits, order the sweet tea, and save the wine drinking for a restaurant that's actually trying.

Abuelo's wine program is an afterthought, and the food is good enough that it doesn't need to be. Get the margarita, get the fajitas, and save the wine night for somewhere that cares.

Applebee's is not a wine destination, and the Lakeland location doesn't pretend otherwise — which is almost a point in its favor. Order a cocktail, enjoy the wings, and save the wine drinking for somewhere that actually cares.

BJ's is a brewpub, and the wine program knows it — it doesn't try very hard and doesn't need to. Show up on a Tuesday for half-off bottles if you must, but if wine is why you're going out tonight, go somewhere else.

This is a wine list that exists because a restaurant technically has to have one — not because anyone cares. Order a cocktail, grab a beer, and save your wine curiosity for literally anywhere else.

The Yard is a patio-and-games spot first, wine bar never — and the list is honest about that. Come for the atmosphere, order the Murphy Goode if you want wine, and save the serious bottle for somewhere else.
