Wingman Metrics
You flip open the menu at Abuelo's looking for something to sip with your enchiladas, and the wine list stops at four bottles — all California, all familiar from the grocery store shelf. It's not that anyone made a bad decision here; it's that nobody made much of a decision at all.
Four labels. That's the whole program. We're talking Woodbridge, Joel Gott, Sea Glass, Archetype, and Unknown Author — a lineup that reads like the endcap at a Publix wine section. Every single bottle is from California, and the range of styles barely covers the basics: two Cabs, a Pinot Noir, a Pinot Grigio, and a Chardonnay. There's no attempt to find anything that actually complements Mexican food — no Albariño, no Grüner, no Tempranillo, nothing with the acidity or brightness to cut through mole or spiced fajita meat. This list exists to check a box, not to enhance a meal.
All four bottles are available by the glass at $9.25 a pour, which is the only piece of this program that makes sense. The selection doesn't rotate — what you see is what you get, and what you get is the same four options every visit. No half-price nights, no seasonal additions, no reason to get excited.
Sea Glass Pinot Grigio, Central Coast California — $30
It's the most food-friendly wine on the list by a wide margin. Light, crisp, and it won't fight with anything on the menu. If you're committed to ordering wine here, this is your safest move.
Archetype Pinot Noir
Most people at a Tex-Mex chain are reaching for the Cab or skipping wine entirely, but Archetype's Pinot Noir is the quiet overachiever of this small list — lighter on its feet and a better match for the chile relleno than either Cabernet.
Woodbridge Cabernet
Woodbridge retails for around $8 a bottle, and you're paying $9.25 for a single glass. The math is brutal, and the wine itself brings nothing to a Mexican food table — it's tannic, heavy, and tastes exactly like what it is.
Sea Glass Pinot Grigio, Central Coast California + Chile Relleno
The mild heat and richness of a stuffed poblano needs something clean and slightly bright to balance it out. The Pinot Grigio's light citrus profile does the job without competing — it's the only pairing on this list that feels intentional.
The Bottom Line
Abuelo's wine program is an afterthought, and the food is good enough that it doesn't need to be. Get the margarita, get the fajitas, and save the wine night for somewhere that cares.

Cracker Barrel's wine program exists in the same way the decorative horseshoes on the wall exist — for atmosphere, not function. Order the biscuits, order the sweet tea, and save the wine drinking for a restaurant that's actually trying.

Applebee's is not a wine destination, and the Lakeland location doesn't pretend otherwise — which is almost a point in its favor. Order a cocktail, enjoy the wings, and save the wine drinking for somewhere that actually cares.

Chili's wine list exists to check a box, not to enhance your dinner. Order a margarita — it's what they actually care about — and save the wine conversation for somewhere that's having it back.

Boca is clearly a tequila and cocktail destination first, and the wine program reflects that — it's an obligation, not a passion. Come for the tacos and the agave spirits, and leave the wine glass at home.

Los Amigos is a Vail institution built on margaritas, mountain vibes, and nachos — and it delivers all three with confidence. The wine list is clearly not the point, and if you order off it expecting more than a simple, overpriced pour to wash down your tacos, that's on you.
