Chain Wine Done Surprisingly Not Terrible

Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Bonefish Grill Fairlawn is exactly what you'd expect from a polished national chain — 27 labels deep, heavy on recognizable names, and clearly engineered to keep the table happy rather than curious. It's not trying to impress anyone, and it doesn't pretend to. What it does do is avoid the cardinal sins: prices are reasonable, the glass pours are plentiful, and nothing here is going to ruin your evening.
Twenty-seven labels is a tight list, and most of the real estate goes to crowd-pleasing commercial producers — Kim Crawford, Meiomi, The Prisoner, Unshackled, Chandon, Jacob's Creek. The regional spread leans hard on California and New Zealand with a little Australian sweetness thrown in for good measure. There's no deep-cellar Old World action here, no natural wine curiosity, nothing that'll make a wine geek reach for their phone. But if you want a clean Sauvignon Blanc with your swordfish or a soft Pinot Noir with your salmon, Bonefish has you covered without making you think too hard.
Twelve glass pours out of 27 labels is a solid ratio — nearly half the list is available by the glass, which makes casual exploration easy. The Social Hour program brings select pours like Kim Crawford and Meiomi down to $9, which is genuinely useful if you're timing your reservation right. Rotation doesn't appear to be a major feature here; this is a set-it-and-forget-it corporate BTG program, but the execution is clean.
Meiomi Pinot Noir — $9
At $9 during Social Hour, you're getting a soft, fruit-forward Pinot that retails around $16. That's actual value in a restaurant setting — especially when most places mark the same bottle to $18 without blinking.
Unshackled by The Prisoner Wine Company
Most people gravitating toward The Prisoner brand skip right to the flagship and miss Unshackled entirely. It's The Prisoner's more approachable sibling — same winemaking DNA, lower price point, and it flies under the radar on a list like this.
The Prisoner
The Prisoner is ubiquitous on chain restaurant lists for a reason — it's an easy sell. But it's also one of the most marked-up bottles in the game at most venues, and at this point it's more brand than bottle. You can do better for the money here.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc + Bang Bang Shrimp
The bright citrus and grassy snap of Kim Crawford cuts right through the creamy, spicy sauce on the Bang Bang Shrimp without getting steamrolled by it. It's a simple match that actually works, and at $9 a glass during Social Hour, it's a no-brainer.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Bonefish Grill Fairlawn won't give you a wine moment worth texting about, but it won't rip you off either — and in the chain restaurant landscape, that clears the bar. Show up during Social Hour, grab a Kim Crawford, and focus on the fish.

Come for the seafood — the Shrimp & Grits and Crab Cake have genuine fans — but come on a Tuesday when the bottles are half off, because that's the only time the wine program makes financial sense. Any other night, order a cocktail.

East Akron · Akron · Japanese / Hibachi
Hibachi Japan's wine list isn't going to make anyone's bucket list, but it's priced fairly, covers the basics, and won't embarrass you on date night. Order the Riesling or Pinot Gris, enjoy the show, and don't overthink it.

Yours Truly is a solid diner doing diner things — the wine list is an afterthought, and that's fine, because you're probably here for the eggs anyway. Order the Prosecco or a Riesling, skip the red blends, and put your energy into the food.

Galaxy's Wine Room is the best wine program in the Akron orbit, and it's not particularly close — but the steep markups and thin by-the-glass selection hold it back from true destination status. Come with a budget, order a bottle, and skip the sticker shock on the Napa end of the list.

Regency is the kind of wine shop Akron deserves more of — small, specific, and clearly curated by someone with a point of view. It's not a destination list, but if you're in Fairlawn and want a proper glass of white Burgundy or a bottle of Ripasso to take home, this is exactly where you go.

Jax Fish House isn't trying to be a wine destination, but whoever built this list understood the assignment: bright, acid-driven bottles that make raw seafood taste better. The Thursday wine special and a sommelier on staff push this comfortably past what you'd expect from a regional chain concept.

Bonefish Grill isn't a wine destination, and it doesn't pretend to be — but the markups are honest, the BTG program covers the bases for a seafood dinner, and Wine Tuesday is a legitimate reason to show up on a Tuesday night. Send a friend here if they want a reliable glass with their fish and a fair bill at the end.
