Diners Don't Need a Wine List, But Still

Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Yours Truly reads like a gas station shelf curated by someone who Googled 'wine brands people have heard of.' Eleven labels, all familiar faces from the supermarket aisle, nothing that suggests anyone here has thought hard about wine. It exists because a family diner needs to offer wine — not because anyone cares about what's in the glass.
Eleven labels is less a wine list and more a holding pattern. You've got Imagery Cab, 19 Crimes Red Blend, Ava Grace Red Blend, Kim Crawford Sauv Blanc, Seaglass Riesling, Rodney Strong Chardonnay, and a Mionetto Prosecco to round things out — every single one a recognizable mass-market brand you can find at your nearest Giant Eagle. The regional spread technically hits California, New Zealand, and Italy, but that's generous framing for what amounts to a grocery run. There are no small producers, no interesting appellations, no sense that the list evolved beyond its opening day.
With only 11 labels and a casual all-day format, it's likely most or all of these are available by the glass — which is fine, because nobody's ordering a bottle of 19 Crimes with their pancakes. The glass program technically gives you options across red, white, and bubbly, but the ceiling is low and the floor isn't far below it.
Mionetto Prosecco — $9
In a list this flat, the Prosecco is your safest play — it's bright, low-stakes, and nobody ever regretted bubbles with brunch. Mionetto is reliable, and at casual diner pricing, it won't sting.
Seaglass Riesling
Most people at a diner this size are reaching for the Chardonnay on autopilot. The Seaglass Riesling is the more interesting pour — off-dry, food-friendly, and actually a better match for the sweeter brunch-forward menu than anything else on this list.
19 Crimes Red Blend
The marketing budget on 19 Crimes is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. It's a soft, jammy, one-note red that checks a box but delivers nothing memorable — and at diner markup, you're paying a premium for a label you already know is middling.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc + Burger
Counterintuitive, maybe, but the Kim Crawford's bright acidity and citrus edge cuts through a greasy diner burger better than any of the reds on this list. It's not a classic pairing — it's just the one that actually works here.
❌ The Bottom Line
Yours Truly is a solid diner doing diner things — the wine list is an afterthought, and that's fine, because you're probably here for the eggs anyway. Order the Prosecco or a Riesling, skip the red blends, and put your energy into the food.
Montrose / Fairlawn · Akron · Seafood
Come for the seafood — the Shrimp & Grits and Crab Cake have genuine fans — but come on a Tuesday when the bottles are half off, because that's the only time the wine program makes financial sense. Any other night, order a cocktail.

East Akron · Akron · Japanese / Hibachi
Hibachi Japan's wine list isn't going to make anyone's bucket list, but it's priced fairly, covers the basics, and won't embarrass you on date night. Order the Riesling or Pinot Gris, enjoy the show, and don't overthink it.

Montrose / Fairlawn · Akron · Seafood
Bonefish Grill Fairlawn won't give you a wine moment worth texting about, but it won't rip you off either — and in the chain restaurant landscape, that clears the bar. Show up during Social Hour, grab a Kim Crawford, and focus on the fish.

Circle L is a genuine wine-list overachiever hiding in plain sight off I-76 — the Thursday bottle discount night alone is worth putting in your calendar. Send your wine-curious friends here; just make sure they don't show up on a Wednesday.

Galaxy's Wine Room is the best wine program in the Akron orbit, and it's not particularly close — but the steep markups and thin by-the-glass selection hold it back from true destination status. Come with a budget, order a bottle, and skip the sticker shock on the Napa end of the list.

Regency is the kind of wine shop Akron deserves more of — small, specific, and clearly curated by someone with a point of view. It's not a destination list, but if you're in Fairlawn and want a proper glass of white Burgundy or a bottle of Ripasso to take home, this is exactly where you go.
