Wingman Metrics
Walking into WL Social House, you don't expect a wine program — you expect a downtown bar with a decent cocktail menu and live music on weekends. What you actually find is a genuinely considered list that leans into Michigan wines without being precious about it. At $10–$16 a glass, nobody's gouging you for the privilege.
The list is compact but not lazy. Michigan gets real love here, which makes sense given their designation as a Michigan Wine Restaurant — this isn't just a flag planted for local credibility, it shapes the whole selection. They round things out with Oregon Pinot Gris from Cedar + Salmon and a Figuière Rosé from Provence, so there's enough geographic range to keep things interesting without the list sprawling into chaos. Ravel & Stitch from California covers the crowd-pleasing red side. The gap is depth — you're not finding anything from the Southern Hemisphere or a single Iberian bottle in sight.
Glass pours land between $10 and $16, which is honest pricing for a downtown spot with live music and actual ambiance. The by-the-glass roster isn't enormous, but it covers the bases: a white, a rosé, a red, and Michigan representation. We'd love to see more rotation to keep regulars reaching for something new.
Cedar + Salmon Pinot Gris, Oregon — $10–$16
Oregon Pinot Gris at downtown wine bar prices is a quiet win — crisp, food-friendly, and a step above what most places pour at this price point.
Figuière Rosé, Provence, France
Most people in the Midwest overlook Provence Rosé as 'summer patio stuff,' but Figuière is a serious producer making structured, savory rosé that works year-round. In Kalamazoo, this is a find.
Ravel & Stitch, California
California Cab at a wine bar focused on Michigan and Europe feels like a placeholder. It's fine, but it's exactly what you'd get anywhere else — skip it and explore what actually makes this list worth visiting.
Figuière Rosé, Provence + House-made breads and meze-style Mediterranean small plates
Provençal rosé and Mediterranean mezze is one of those combinations that exists because geography made it obvious — the wine's dry, herbal edge cuts through olive oil and brings out the brightness in whatever's on the board.
🎲 The Bottom Line
WL Social House is the kind of place that surprises you in the best way — a thoughtful, Michigan-forward wine program in a city that doesn't get enough credit for this stuff. It's not a deep cellar, but it's a genuinely good reason to skip the beer list for once.
West Main Hill · Kalamazoo · Bar / Lounge with cocktails and light bites
Henderson Castle Rooftop Lounge is a Wild Card through and through — you're not coming here for list depth, you're coming because it's a castle rooftop in Michigan with estate wines poured under open sky, and that's a legitimate reason. Just set your expectations accordingly: this is a vibe destination with a house wine program, not a destination wine bar.

West Main Hill · Kalamazoo · Steakhouse / American Fine Dining
The Henderson Castle is a genuinely spectacular place to have dinner, and the wine list is its most underwhelming feature. Go for the atmosphere and the steaks, drink the Riesling or the Meritage, and don't come here expecting a deep cellar — there's a literal wine cave on the property but the list doesn't fully live up to the theater of it.

Fandango is the kind of wine program that makes you wonder why you haven't been going here for years. Fair pricing, serious range, and enough depth to reward multiple visits — yes, send your friends, and tell them to skip the cocktail menu.

Zooroona isn't a wine destination, but it's doing something smarter than most casual spots in its category — leaning into Lebanese producers to match its food. If you're here for shawarma and mezze, order the Massaya or the Musar Jeune and don't overthink it.

Bold is a reliable neighborhood steakhouse with a wine list that matches the room — safe, familiar, and priced like they know you're here to celebrate. If you're chasing something adventurous in the glass, keep hunting; if you just want a decent pour with a great steak, it gets the job done.

Principle isn't a wine destination, but it's a wine list that clearly had some thought put into it — a rare thing for a cocktail-first downtown spot. Send a curious friend here and tell them to order the orange wine.
