Wingman Metrics
The list at Bold reads exactly like the restaurant looks — polished, crowd-pleasing, and built for people who know what they like before they sit down. Thirty-six labels isn't deep, but it's organized cleanly across sparkling, white, rosé, and red. There's nothing here to surprise you, and honestly, that seems to be the point.
The list leans heavily on California and Pacific Northwest workhorses — your Cakebreads, your Sonoma-Cutrers, your Meiomis — which makes sense for a steakhouse that's more focused on the ribeye than the Rhône. Sparkling gets a respectable nod with Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs and Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label anchoring the top end, while Gruet Brut Rosé gives budget-conscious bubbles buyers a legitimate option. The reds are thinner than you'd want for a steakhouse — mostly Pinot Noir with a couple of Merlots — and if you're hunting for a Cabernet or anything from Burgundy, Bordeaux, or Spain, you're going to be disappointed. The gap between 'I want a serious red with my ribeye' and what's actually on offer here is real.
Twenty-four by-the-glass options is legitimately impressive for a 36-label list — nearly the whole cellar is available by the pour, which is great for tables that can't agree on a bottle. The range runs $8–$18 per glass, covering everything from Benvolio Pinot Grigio at the entry level to Far Niente Chardonnay at the top. No obvious rotation program in sight, which means what you see is what you get, week after week.
Gruet Brut Rosé — $12
New Mexico's Gruet consistently punches above its price class, and getting it by the glass at a steakhouse without a markup that makes your eyes water is a minor win. Start here before the steak arrives.
Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs
Most people at a steakhouse walk past the sparkling section entirely. That's a mistake when Schramsberg is on the list — this is one of California's best traditional-method sparkling producers, and it earns its place at the table well beyond the pre-dinner toast.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay
You can grab this at any grocery store in Michigan for around $15 a bottle. Whatever they're charging here isn't telling a different story — it's just a steeper bill for a wine that needs no discovery.
Sonoma-Cutrer Russian River Ranches Chardonnay + Chef-crafted seafood specials
Russian River Ranches brings enough tension and acidity to hold its own against richer seafood preparations without bulldozing them. It's the move when the kitchen is running something buttery or cream-finished.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Bold is a reliable neighborhood steakhouse with a wine list that matches the room — safe, familiar, and priced like they know you're here to celebrate. If you're chasing something adventurous in the glass, keep hunting; if you just want a decent pour with a great steak, it gets the job done.
West Main Hill · Kalamazoo · Bar / Lounge with cocktails and light bites
Henderson Castle Rooftop Lounge is a Wild Card through and through — you're not coming here for list depth, you're coming because it's a castle rooftop in Michigan with estate wines poured under open sky, and that's a legitimate reason. Just set your expectations accordingly: this is a vibe destination with a house wine program, not a destination wine bar.

West Main Hill · Kalamazoo · Steakhouse / American Fine Dining
The Henderson Castle is a genuinely spectacular place to have dinner, and the wine list is its most underwhelming feature. Go for the atmosphere and the steaks, drink the Riesling or the Meritage, and don't come here expecting a deep cellar — there's a literal wine cave on the property but the list doesn't fully live up to the theater of it.

Zooroona isn't a wine destination, but it's doing something smarter than most casual spots in its category — leaning into Lebanese producers to match its food. If you're here for shawarma and mezze, order the Massaya or the Musar Jeune and don't overthink it.

Principle isn't a wine destination, but it's a wine list that clearly had some thought put into it — a rare thing for a cocktail-first downtown spot. Send a curious friend here and tell them to order the orange wine.

Brick and Brine is doing more with a hotel wine list than most restaurants in its category bother to attempt — there's genuine range here and a few wines worth getting excited about. The markups are real and the California-heavy tilt won't surprise anyone, but if you know where to look, you can drink well.

PRESS is a bucket-list wine destination if Napa Cab is your religion and you've got the budget for the tithe — 2,700 bottles, proper cellar, and a staff that can navigate all of it. Just go in clear-eyed: markups are real, the Duckhorn is a trap, and the magic here lives in the verticals and library selections, not the familiar names.

Cowboy Star is a dependable steakhouse wine list done right — sommelier on staff, proper storage, and enough depth to keep serious wine drinkers busy. Just don't expect to find anything that will make you forget your dinner conversation; this list is here to serve the steak, not steal the show.

Orange Sky is a resort wine list that actually tries — broad coverage, a sommelier who knows the list, and a few genuinely smart picks buried under the crowd-pleasing anchors. The markups are resort-steep across most of the list, but Flowers and Page Springs are priced fairly enough to reward guests who look past the Caymus.
