You walk into what reads as a neighborhood tavern and the wine list immediately makes you do a double take. Cedric Bouchard, Radikon, Auguste Clape, Horsepower — this is not the list of someone who ordered from a distributor catalog. Whoever curated this actually cares, and it shows from the first page.
The 65-label list punches absurdly above its weight class for an American tavern. France anchors everything — Beaujolais from Foillard and Lapierre, Northern Rhône from Chave and Clape, Burgundy from Chantereves and Benjamin Leroux — but there's real range beyond it: Ganevat from the Jura, Gut Oggau from Austria, Ceritas and Littorai from the California coast, and a surprisingly deep run of Sadie Family wines from South Africa. Gaps exist — Italy gets token representation and there's no meaningful white Burgundy depth — but the hits far outnumber the misses. This is a list built around a point of view, not a price point.
Thirteen glass pours is a generous count for a spot this size, and the program includes the Champagne Sébastien Girost Rosé de Saignée Brut at $25 a glass, which at least signals ambition. Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage Syrah 2021 — $75
Graillot is the benchmark producer in Crozes-Hermitage — structured, smoky northern Rhône Syrah that regularly trades hands at $30-40 retail. At $75 it's not a steal, but it's the most accessible entry point into serious Rhône drinking on this list, and it overdelivers on what the price suggests.
Gut Oggau 'Theodora' Gruner Veltliner 2024
Gut Oggau is a biodynamic Austrian estate that names every wine after a family member — Theodora is their lighter, earlier-drinking style. Most people at a tavern scan past Austrian whites without a second thought, which means this bottle sits there waiting for the one table that orders it and has their night made.
Charles Lachaux Cote de Nuits-Villages 'Aux Montagnes' 2021
At $375, you're paying hype-bubble pricing for a village-level wine from a producer whose allocations got speculative fast. Lachaux is genuinely talented, but Côte de Nuits-Villages is the entry tier, and this price asks you to bet entirely on the name. There's better drinking on this list for far less.
Jean Foillard Morgon 'Cuvée Corcelette' 2021 + Tavern Burger
Foillard's Corcelette is Beaujolais that thinks it's Burgundy — dark cherry, iron, real structure under the fruit. It's one of the great burger wines on the planet, cuts through fat without overwhelming, and at what should be a reasonable price point for this list, it's the move every time.

Winslow's Tavern is hiding a genuinely serious wine program behind an unpretentious exterior, and that gap between expectation and reality is exactly what makes it worth seeking out. Markups keep it from Rager territory, but the curation is legitimately exciting — go in knowing what you want and you'll drink very well.
