Wingman Metrics
Fourteen bottles in Rapid City, South Dakota — and not a Kendall-Jackson in sight. The list is compact, but whoever curated it actually did some homework. This is not the wine program you expect to find on the northern plains.
The list spans enough ground to keep things interesting: an Alsatian Gentil from Famille Hugel, a Vidal-Fleury Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc, a Garnacha from old vines, and a proper Château Ducasse Graves Rouge 2022 sitting alongside a Broken Earth Cab Franc 2019. It's not deep — fourteen labels total — but the picks lean Old World-curious without completely abandoning the crowd-pleasers that keep a cocktail bar solvent. There are real gaps (no Nebbiolo, no Riesling, no natural wine to speak of), but for what it is and where it is, the curation punches up. The Cab Franc from Broken Earth and the Hugel Gentil alone tell you someone in this building is paying attention.
Every bottle on the list is available by the glass, which is a generous all-in policy that works well for a bar format. Pours run $9–$14, which is honest money for South Dakota — the Taylor Fladgate 20-Year Tawny Port at $10 a glass is practically an act of charity. Chandon Brut Sparkling Rosé comes in at $12, which keeps the bubbles accessible without defaulting to something embarrassing.
Château Ducasse Graves Rouge 2022 — $39
A proper Bordeaux appellation bottle — Graves Rouge has the structure and restraint that Cab Sauv-dominated blends from Napa triple the price try to fake. At $39 in a cocktail bar, this is a legitimate deal.
Famille Hugel Gentil 2023
Most people at a bar order red or bubbles and move on. The Hugel Gentil is an Alsatian field blend — aromatic, textured, genuinely interesting — and it will get passed over every single night. That's their loss.
Fleur de Mer Rosé 2025
At $48 a bottle, this Provence rosé is the list's steepest ticket and it's priced above what it delivers. Fleur de Mer is a perfectly drinkable patio rosé, but it's also everywhere and it's not a $48 wine.
Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Tawny Port + Charcuterie or cheese board
A 20-year Tawny has the oxidative nuttiness and dried fruit depth to cut through aged cheese and cured meat in a way that nothing else on the list can. At $10 a glass, ordering it alongside a board is one of the better moves you can make here.
The Bottom Line
Windsor Block Bar shouldn't be this interesting — a 14-bottle wine list in Rapid City that name-checks Vidal-Fleury and a 2019 Cab Franc is a genuine surprise. If you're passing through and need something better than house red, this is your stop.

Colonial House is a comfortable neighborhood diner that treats wine as an afterthought, and the list reflects exactly that. Drink the Whitehaven, avoid the $46 upsells, and save your wine ambitions for a different night.

Timbers Lounge is a place to have a drink after a long drive to Mount Rushmore, not a destination for wine. Order a cocktail or a beer and save your wine energy for somewhere that's put in the work.

Mi Mexico is not a wine destination, and it doesn't pretend to be — order a margarita, enjoy your meal, and don't expect the wine list to surprise you. If you absolutely must have wine with your tacos, the Sangria is $6.25 and nobody will judge you.

LongHorn Rapid City is exactly what it is — a reliable chain steakhouse with a wine list that was built by committee and hasn't changed much since. If you're here for the steak, you'll be fine; just aim for the Joel Gott and don't expect the staff to talk you through it.

There is no version of this wine list that warrants a special trip or even a deliberate order — it's a functional corporate program designed to move bottles, not to impress. If you're at Outback for the steak, grab the Alamos Malbec and call it a night; if wine actually matters to you, this is a cocktail dinner.

This is a wine list that exists purely because restaurants are expected to have one. Don't come to Applebee's for wine — but if you're already here and you need a glass, the Mondavi Cab won't embarrass you.
