Wingman Metrics
Weller's Bistro has genuine atmosphere going for it — warm lighting, intimate seating, a real sense of place that makes you want to linger over a bottle. Then you see the wine list and the European fantasy deflates fast. This is a grocery store run dressed up in bistro clothing.
The restaurant bills itself around German and French influences, which should mean Rieslings, Alsatian whites, maybe a Pinot Noir from the Pfalz or a Côtes du Rhône that makes sense with the schnitzel. Instead, the list reads like a supermarket endcap: Apothic Red, Ménage à Trois, Cavit Pinot Grigio, Kim Crawford, Barefoot Moscato. There is nothing here that connects to the kitchen's European ambitions. For a bistro leaning into Alsace and Germany as identity anchors, the absence of a single German or French wine on the glass list is a real miss — and a missed opportunity to do something distinctive in Ogden's dining scene.
The by-the-glass program is all six of what we know about: mass-market bottles in the $7–$9 range that you can pick up at any Smith's on the way home. To be fair, the pricing is honest — you're not getting gouged — but you're also not getting anything worth getting excited about. Rotation appears nonexistent; this list looks like it hasn't been touched in years.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc — $9
At $9 a glass on a $17 retail bottle, the markup is the lightest on the list. It's a simple, clean pour and won't embarrass you — which is about as high as the bar gets here.
J. Lohr Seven Oaks Cabernet Sauvignon
It's not exciting, but J. Lohr Seven Oaks is a legitimate, well-made Paso Robles Cab — far more serious than the Apothic and Ménage à Trois sitting next to it on the list. If you're drinking red, this is your move.
Barefoot Moscato
At $7 a glass, you're paying restaurant prices for a wine that retails for $7 a bottle. It's not even a markup question — it's just a wine that has no business on any restaurant list, full stop.
Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc + Wiener Schnitzel
Schnitzel wants something crisp and bright to cut through the breading — and while a Grüner Veltliner or Alsatian Riesling would be ideal, the Kim Crawford is the closest thing on this list to that kind of acidity. It's not the pairing the dish deserves, but it's the best option available.
❌ The Bottom Line
Weller's Bistro is a genuinely pleasant neighborhood spot that deserves a wine list half as interesting as its food concept. Right now, the wine program is an afterthought — stick to cocktails or ask if they'll let you bring your own bottle.
South Ogden · Ogden · Mexican / Cantina
Cactus Grill is a solid spot for tacos, enchiladas, and a well-made margarita — the wine list is just along for the ride. If wine matters to you tonight, order the Cooper & Thief and move on; if it really matters to you, come back another night.

Timbermine earns its reputation as a reliable Ogden institution on the strength of its food and atmosphere — the wine list is just along for the ride. Come for the prime rib, order something red and Californian, and don't overthink it.

South Ogden / Riverdale Road Corridor · Ogden · Steakhouse
Ruby River's wine list is a utility player — it shows up, does what's needed for a steak dinner, and goes home. We wouldn't make the drive for the wine, but if you're already there for the prime rib, the Chateau Ste. Michelle will take care of you.

Downtown Ogden · Ogden · Fine Dining American/European-Influenced
If you think Utah wine is a punchline, this place is the correction — it's a small, serious list built around a real winemaking operation, and the value holds up. Send a curious friend here; tell them to order the La Crescent and not ask too many questions.

Grant Avenue · Ogden · Wine Bar / Cheese Bar
Mercantile isn't here to impress wine nerds, and it doesn't try to. What it offers is a genuinely low-stakes, fairly priced place to drink decent West Coast wines with a cheese board in hand — and in Ogden, that's worth something.

Ogden Beer Company is a genuinely fun riverfront spot — just order a Cougar Juice wheat and call it a day. The wine list exists, technically, but it's not trying to impress anyone and you shouldn't let it impress you.
