Walking into a cocktail lounge in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and finding 27 wine labels is not what we expected — but here we are. The list skews heavily white and bubbly, which honestly fits the room. It reads like someone with actual taste put it together, even if the depth doesn't go very far.
The list is almost entirely white wine and sparkling, which makes sense for a lounge setting but leaves red wine drinkers with slim pickings — just two Pinot Noirs and a Port. The bubbles section is genuinely well-considered: Segura Viudas Cava at $24, Gruet Brut Rosé at $39, and Moët at $58 cover a nice price ladder without padding it with garbage. Whites show some range — Albariño, Vinho Verde, Pinot Gris, Riesling — that's more regional variety than most cocktail bars in a mid-sized Tennessee city bother with. The glaring gap is anything red beyond Pinot Noir, and no rosé beyond the Romance Rosé.
Twenty-one by-the-glass options out of 27 total labels is an unusually high ratio — basically the whole list is available by the glass, which is a real win for anyone who wants to explore without committing to a bottle. Prices run $7 to $17 per glass, which is genuinely reasonable for the market. The Port by the glass at $8 is a quietly smart move for a lounge crowd.
Segura Viudas Cava — $24
A solid Spanish Cava at $24 a bottle in a cocktail lounge? That's a fair price for a wine that punches above its weight in bubbles and freshness. Easy yes if you're splitting a bottle.
Fonseca Bin 27 Reserve Port
Port by the glass at a Tennessee cocktail lounge is not something most people think to order — which is exactly why you should. At $8 a glass, this is a rich, concentrated nightcap that most of the room will completely overlook.
Iterum Sauvignon Blanc
At $78 a bottle, this is the outlier that doesn't belong on a list where everything else tops out at $116 for their flagship red. For a Sauvignon Blanc in this context, that's a hard sell when the Whitehaven does the job at $42.
Anadigna 1932 Albariño + Charcuterie Board
Albariño's bright acidity and subtle salinity make it a natural foil for cured meats and aged cheeses — the kind of light bites a cocktail lounge typically runs. At $48, it's the most interesting white on the list for food.
The Bottom Line
The Velvet Room has no business having a wine list this thoughtful for a cocktail lounge in Murfreesboro — and yet here it is. If you're coming for wine specifically, you'll be pleasantly surprised; if you're expecting a deep cellar, adjust those expectations before you walk in.
