You're sitting lakeside at one of the more scenic spots in the Finger Lakes, and the wine list arrives — all 11 labels of it. For a property that charges event-tier prices and sits in the middle of one of America's most exciting wine regions, the list reads like a banquet hall playing it extremely safe.
The list splits between California workhorses and a token nod to the Finger Lakes, which is both the most obvious miss and the most forgivable sin given that this is primarily a wedding and corporate event venue. You've got Simi, Kim Crawford, Meomi, and Robert Mondavi Private Selection holding down the predictable end, while Forge Classique Dry Riesling and Dr. Frank's Celebre offer a brief flicker of regional pride. The Prisoner's Unshackled Red Blend and The Beach by Whispering Angel feel like they were added to satisfy guests who've seen those bottles on Instagram. There's no old-world presence, no interesting Burgundy or Rhône option, and no real depth beyond what you'd find at a well-stocked airport bar.
Every single wine on the list is available by the glass, which sounds generous until you realize the list has eleven bottles total. Pricing runs $12 for the Classic tier, $14 for Premium, and $15 for Elite — a tidy structure that works for event billing but doesn't inspire any exploration. There's no rotation happening here; this list was set and likely hasn't moved since the last printed banquet menu.
Forge Classique Dry Riesling — $12
Forge is a legitimate Finger Lakes producer making serious Riesling, and getting it at the Classic tier price point while sitting on the shores of Canandaigua Lake is the closest thing to a smart order on this list.
Kelby James Russell Rosé
Kelby James Russell is one of the more respected names working in the Finger Lakes right now, and his rosé is a genuine regional expression. Most guests at a wedding will reach for the Whispering Angel — don't. This is the better bottle and the more interesting story.
Meomi Pinot Noir
Meomi is a mass-market California brand that retails for around $13. At $12–$14 a glass, you're paying close to full bottle retail price for a pour. It's fine wine for a grocery run, not for a lakeside dinner.
Dr. Frank's Celebre Sparkling + Wedding reception passed appetizers
Dr. Frank's Celebre is a sparkling wine built for celebration — effervescent, approachable, and actually from the region you're sitting in. For the passed bites at the start of a lakeside event, it's the right call: festive without being fussy, local without being obscure.

The Lake House is a beautiful place to get married or host a corporate dinner, but the wine program is clearly an afterthought — a functional, inoffensive list designed to move bottles at events, not to excite anyone. If you're eating here, drink the Finger Lakes options and leave the Meomi alone.

Pintxo is punching well above its weight class for a small-city wine bar, and the Spanish regional focus gives it a genuine identity that most places never find. If you're anywhere near the Finger Lakes and care even a little about wine, this one's worth the detour.

Rose Tavern is a perfectly pleasant place to drink wine if you're already staying at The Lake House — the setting does a lot of the work. But if you're driving in specifically for the wine list, you'd do better hitting a dedicated Finger Lakes tasting room down the road.

Rose Tavern isn't trying to be a destination wine bar, but it's got the bones of one — a sommelier, a thoughtful local-first list, and a glass program that lets you actually explore it. Markups on the name brands are punishing, but stick to the Finger Lakes section and you're drinking well at a lake view that most wine lists couldn't dream of.
