KiX on Main lands with the confidence of a restaurant that knows its crowd — a buzzy two-story spot on Canandaigua's main drag with a rooftop deck and a wine list built to please, not to challenge. Seventeen labels isn't deep, but it's curated with a clear point of view: recognizable names, approachable prices, and a nod to the Finger Lakes backyard it actually sits in.
The list leans hard into California — Orin Swift shows up three times, which is either a love affair or a distribution deal, and Rombauer Chardonnay is doing its usual crowd-pleasing duty. France gets a token appearance via Veuve Clicquot and Whispering Angel, Argentina checks in with the Gascón Malbec, and New Zealand sends White Haven Sauvignon Blanc as its ambassador. The most interesting corner of the list is also the most undersold: Heron Hill's Finger Lakes Riesling and Pinot Noir sit quietly at the bottom, almost apologetically, when they should be the headline act given this restaurant's literal zip code. Gaps are real — no Italian reds, no Burgundy, nothing remotely esoteric — but the list does what it sets out to do without embarrassing itself.
Fifteen of seventeen labels are available by the glass, which is a genuinely generous ratio and the list's strongest feature. Prices run $8.50 to $22 a pour, with Whispering Angel anchoring the low end and Orin Swift Palermo topping out the premium tier. Rotation doesn't appear to be a priority here — this feels like a set-it list rather than one that chases the seasons.
Whispering Angel The Beach Rosé — $8.50/glass, $28/bottle
The Beach is Whispering Angel's everyday sibling and it's perfectly decent Provence rosé. At $28 a bottle in a sit-down restaurant with a rooftop deck, that's genuinely fair — this often retails around $20-22, so the markup is minimal. Order a bottle for the table and don't overthink it.
Heron Hill Semi-Dry Riesling
You're in the Finger Lakes. Heron Hill is literally down the road on Keuka Lake and their Semi-Dry Riesling is exactly what this region does better than almost anywhere in the country — bright acidity, stone fruit, a whisper of sweetness that works with spice or cuts through rich food. Most tables here will order the Rombauer out of habit and miss the most locally honest bottle on the list.
Orin Swift 8 Years In The Desert
Orin Swift already has two other bottles on this list, and 8 Years is the one that tends to get the biggest markup everywhere it lands. It's a flashy red blend built for the label as much as the liquid. Save your money for a second pour of something else.
Heron Hill Pinot Noir + Burger
Tuesday burger nights are a thing here, and Finger Lakes Pinot Noir — lighter-bodied, higher acid, earthier than its California cousins — actually handles a good burger better than a big Cab would. It won't fight the beef and it won't bore you.

KiX on Main is a solid neighborhood wine list for a town that could easily get away with something worse — fair prices, generous glass pours, and two Finger Lakes bottles that deserve more attention than they probably get. Don't come here for a deep dive, but don't skip the wine either.

Nolan's is a dependable lakeside wine list that does right by its guests without taking any real risks — the Finger Lakes locals are a genuine highlight worth seeking out. Send a friend here for the view and the steak; tell them to order the Heron Hill.

Pintxo is punching well above its weight class for a small-city wine bar, and the Spanish regional focus gives it a genuine identity that most places never find. If you're anywhere near the Finger Lakes and care even a little about wine, this one's worth the detour.

Rose Tavern is a perfectly pleasant place to drink wine if you're already staying at The Lake House — the setting does a lot of the work. But if you're driving in specifically for the wine list, you'd do better hitting a dedicated Finger Lakes tasting room down the road.

The Lake House is a beautiful place to get married or host a corporate dinner, but the wine program is clearly an afterthought — a functional, inoffensive list designed to move bottles at events, not to excite anyone. If you're eating here, drink the Finger Lakes options and leave the Meomi alone.

Rose Tavern isn't trying to be a destination wine bar, but it's got the bones of one — a sommelier, a thoughtful local-first list, and a glass program that lets you actually explore it. Markups on the name brands are punishing, but stick to the Finger Lakes section and you're drinking well at a lake view that most wine lists couldn't dream of.
