Wingman Metrics
The District Wine Bar hangs its shingle as a wine destination in Medford, but the list reads less like a curated wine program and more like a weekend run to Cost Plus World Market. Fifteen labels total — which is a tight number for a wine bar — and almost nothing here would surprise anyone who's shopped the $10-and-under shelf at a grocery store.
The list leans hard into recognizable, mass-market names: Lindemans, Rawson's Retreat, Beringer White Zinfandel, and Wycliff are doing a lot of heavy lifting. There's no regional identity — Oregon and Southern Oregon wines are conspicuously absent from a wine bar literally sitting in the Rogue Valley, one of the more interesting wine regions in the country. St. Francis Merlot and Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay are a step up, but they're workhorses, not discoveries. The Alamos Malbec is the lone gesture toward something outside the California-Australia comfort zone, and it's not exactly adventurous.
All 15 bottles are available by the glass, which sounds generous until you realize the list itself is only 15 bottles deep — so there's no bottle-only cellar lurking behind the curtain. Entry point is a jaw-dropping $5/glass for Lindemans Chardonnay or Merlot, which tells you everything about what tier of wine we're talking about. The top of the glass pour program is $12, which is reasonable, but the selections don't justify calling this a wine bar experience.
Alamos Malbec — $30
By bottle, the Alamos Malbec from Mendoza is the most interesting wine on the list at a price that doesn't completely hurt. It's a known, reliable producer and holds its own in a lineup that otherwise skews toward bulk wine territory.
Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay
Relative to everything else on this list, Sonoma-Cutrer is actually the highest-quality pour available — a genuine Sonoma Coast Chardonnay with some restraint and actual winemaking behind it. Most people here will reach for the Lindemans first, but this is the move if you want something that drinks like a wine bar is supposed to serve.
Hess Select Cabernet Sauvignon
At $44 a bottle, Hess Select is the priciest pour on the menu and absolutely not worth it. This is a $12 retail bottle being sold at nearly 4x markup. There is no version of this math that works in your favor.
St. Francis Merlot + Cheese Board
Without confirmed food menu data, a cheese board is the safe assumption for a wine bar — and the St. Francis Merlot at $32 is the most food-friendly red on the list, with enough body and soft tannins to work against aged cheddar or gouda without overwhelming anything.
The Bottom Line
The District Wine Bar is a wine bar in name but not in spirit — the list reads like it was assembled from a distributor's entry-level catalog, and sitting in the middle of Southern Oregon wine country without a single local bottle is a genuine missed opportunity. Order the Malbec, keep your expectations low, and save the serious wine conversation for somewhere else.

The Butterfly Club is the last thing you'd expect in a Medford strip mall: a genuine supper club with a wine list that earns your attention. It's not perfect, but with local Oregon producers, legitimate European selections, and an overall fair approach to pricing, we'd absolutely send a wine-curious friend here.
