For South Bend, Indiana, this list punches above its weight class. Twenty-four labels is a tight edit, but the presence of Ameztoi Txakoli alongside Kim Crawford tells you someone behind this list actually cares. It's not trying to be a Chicago wine bar — and that's fine.
The list leans heavily West Coast, with California and Oregon doing most of the work — Erath and Sea Glass holding down the Pinot Noir flank, Seghesio bringing muscle on Zinfandel, Duckhorn showing up twice on both the Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot sides. What saves it from being a Greatest Hits of the wine shop aisle is the Ameztoi Txakoli de Getaria, a Basque coastal white that has absolutely no business being on a list in northern Indiana, and we mean that as a compliment. The Broadbent Vinho Verde and Chateau Morrisette Viognier add a little more texture to an otherwise California-dominant lineup. Gaps exist — no Burgundy, no Rhône, no Italy to speak of — but for a 24-bottle list in this market, the instincts are mostly right.

Glass pours run $8 to $21, keeping the entry point genuinely accessible. The range by the glass mirrors the bottle list, so what you see is what you get, no hidden pours.
Broadbent Vinho Verde — $32
Lowest bottle price on the list and one of its most food-friendly wines. Vinho Verde at $32 is a fair deal for a label with real distribution credibility, and it's the kind of thing you order a second bottle of without thinking twice.
Ameztoi Txakoli de Getaria
Most tables at a place like this are going to reach for the Kim Crawford and call it a night. Don't. The Ameztoi is a spritzy, saline Basque white that's completely unlike anything else on this list — and the fact that it's even here is a minor miracle. Order it before someone removes it.
Duckhorn Merlot
At $72 it's the most expensive bottle on the list and Duckhorn Merlot, while a solid wine, is wildly available at retail. You're paying a significant premium for a bottle you've seen at every fine dining restaurant in America. The value isn't here.
Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel + Charcuterie board
Seghesio Zinfandel brings enough dark fruit and spice to stand up to cured meats and aged cheese without bulldozing them. It's the kind of bottle that makes a grazing plate feel like an actual meal.
The Bottom Line
The Cellar is a genuinely good neighborhood wine bar doing real work in a market that doesn't demand it — and that Txakoli on the list earns it a second look from anyone passing through South Bend. It's not a destination, but it's absolutely worth the stop.
