Walking into Texas Sun Winery, you're not in a traditional wine bar β you're in a sangria-forward tasting room where blackberry cabernet and green apple riesling share the menu with actual Texas producers on a self-serve wine wall. It's a curveball in the middle of the Permian Basin, and honestly, we're here for the audacity. The vibe skews casual and fun, which is either exactly what you want or completely not your scene.
The list is built around Texas Sun's own house-produced fruit-infused sangrias β 20+ named offerings like Baby Blue (Blackberry Cabernet Sauvignon), Boot Scootin' Boogie (Green Apple Riesling), and Dancehall (Kiwi Pear Sauvignon Blanc) β alongside traditional in-house varietals like Chardonnay, Merlot, and Pinot Grigio. The real intrigue is the self-serve wine system, which pulls in legitimate Texas producers: William Chris, Fall Creek, Messina Hof Serenity, Hunter, and Enchante. That's a legit Texas wine education sitting next to a pink lemonade sangria called Prickly Poppy, and we mean that with zero condescension. The gap is depth β if you want serious Old World or anything aged, look elsewhere.
The sangria side of the BTG menu is the main event, with 12+ named pours running $8β$9 a glass, which is reasonable for a casual tasting experience. The self-serve Texas wine wall adds options beyond the house program, though exact BTG count and pricing for those bottles isn't fully published. If you want to try multiple things β and you should β the glass pricing makes grazing easy.
Baby Blue β Blackberry Cabernet Sauvignon (bottle) β $24
At $24 a bottle, you're getting their flagship fruit-infused sangria for a group-friendly price. It's made in-house, the markup is steep by-the-glass but reasonable by the bottle, and it's exactly what this place does best.
Messina Hof Serenity (self-serve wall)
Most people come here for the sangrias and miss the Texas producers on the self-serve system entirely. Messina Hof is one of the state's most established wineries, and finding Serenity pourable by the ounce at your own pace is a genuinely underappreciated way to explore Texas wine without committing to a full bottle.
Baby Blue β Blackberry Cabernet Sauvignon (by the glass)
At $9 a glass, you're paying roughly 350% markup over the bottle equivalent. If you like it, just order the bottle at $24 β the math is obvious and the staff won't mind.
Dancehall β Kiwi Pear Sauvignon Blanc Sangria + Charcuterie board
The fruit-forward brightness of the Kiwi Pear Sauvignon Blanc cuts through rich cured meats and soft cheeses without overwhelming them β it's the kind of easy, refreshing pour that makes snacking feel intentional.
π² The Bottom Line
Texas Sun Winery is a genuinely weird and fun detour in a city not known for wine culture β the sangria program is novel, the Texas wine wall is an unexpected bonus, and the by-the-glass markup is something to watch. Come for the experience, order the bottle, skip the solo glass.

Abuelo's is a great place to eat enchiladas and drink a margarita β the wine list is an afterthought and should be treated as one. If wine matters to you tonight, this isn't your spot.

Loop 250 / Retail Corridor Β· Midland Β· American Gastropub
Cork & Pig is doing more with wine than anyone should expect from a retail-corridor gastropub in Midland. The markups sting a little at the top end, but the Social Hour pricing and the breadth of the by-the-glass program make this an easy recommendation for locals who want something better than house red.

Texas Sun is a genuine local story in a city that doesn't have many of them, and for that alone it earns a visit. Just set your expectations to 'fun afternoon on the patio' rather than 'deep wine exploration' and you'll leave happy.

Pi Social isn't a wine destination, but it doesn't bill itself as one. If you're in Midland, grabbing a glass of Prosecco before a pizza on the patio, this does the job without gouging you β and that's a reasonable ask.

North Midland Β· Midland Β· Wine Bistro
Texas Sun Winery Bistro is doing something genuinely unusual in a city where the default move is a steakhouse Cab β a house-label global list with fair prices, 38 pours by the glass, and Armenian wines you won't find anywhere else in the Permian Basin. Send your most wine-curious friend here and tell them to ignore the Malbec.

Pi Social isn't going to win any wine program awards, but the Thursday half-price bottles and a surprisingly solid Villa Matilde Aglianico make it worth skipping the cocktail menu at least once. For Midland, this is a respectable effort β show up on Thursday and drink smarter than the room.
