Pi Social walks in wearing a Caymus t-shirt and nobody's surprised β this is West Texas, and the list reads like it was built for the crowd that already knows what they want. Nineteen labels isn't a lot, but the room has energy and the Thursday industry night makes even a $100 Napa Cab feel like a reasonable choice. It's not trying to be a wine bar, and that honesty is actually refreshing.
The list leans hard into California Cabernet β Caymus, Stags' Leap, Austin Hope, Noble Vines 337, and Conundrum Red by Caymus essentially eat up the red half of the card. There's a flash of Italy with the Villa Matilde Aglianico and the Tutto Mio Rosso Dolce, plus LaLuca Prosecco and Banfi Centine Pinot Grigio holding down the lighter end. The New World whites are predictable β Harken and Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay, Infamous Goose Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand β and the Movendo Moscato rounds things out for the sweet-wine crowd. What's missing is any real depth in Burgundy, RhΓ΄ne, or Spanish wines, and zero natural or biodynamic options, but this is Midland, not Austin, and the list is calibrated accordingly.
Glass pour options aren't clearly broken out on the digital menu, but the $13 wine flight pricing suggests several of the Italian and entry-level bottles pour by the glass at accessible prices. The Thursday industry night half-price bottle promotion is the real move here β confirm inclusions at the door, but the Instagram reel makes it sound broadly applicable. Without a confirmed BTG menu, we'd ask the server directly and skip guessing.
Villa Matilde Aglianico β $13
Aglianico is a serious southern Italian red β structured, smoky, built for food β and at $13 in a Midland pizza joint, this is practically a gift. Retail runs around $18, meaning you're actually paying below market. Order it with the brick oven pizza and don't look back.
Infamous Goose Sauvignon Blanc
Everyone at this table is reaching for the Caymus. Don't. The Infamous Goose from New Zealand is bright, grassy, and cuts right through the richness of a white pizza or anything cream-forward on the menu. It's the kind of wine that makes you feel like you made a smarter call than the table next to you.
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon
Caymus is fine. You've also had it a hundred times at a hundred restaurants where it's marked up to the moon. It's the safe pick, which is exactly why you shouldn't order it here when the Austin Hope or Stags' Leap offer more interesting drinking at likely similar or lower price points. Save Caymus for when someone else is paying.
Villa Matilde Aglianico + Neapolitan-style brick oven pizza
Aglianico and Neapolitan pizza is practically the original Italian combo β the wine's firm tannins and earthy char notes are made for tomato-heavy, wood-fired anything. This is the pairing Pi Social doesn't know it's accidentally doing right.
Thursday β Industry Night every Thursday from 5pm to close β half-price wine bottles promoted on Instagram. Exact inclusions and exclusions not specified; confirm on-site before ordering.
π² The Bottom Line
Pi Social isn't going to win any wine program awards, but the Thursday half-price bottles and a surprisingly solid Villa Matilde Aglianico make it worth skipping the cocktail menu at least once. For Midland, this is a respectable effort β show up on Thursday and drink smarter than the room.

Abuelo's is a great place to eat enchiladas and drink a margarita β the wine list is an afterthought and should be treated as one. If wine matters to you tonight, this isn't your spot.

Loop 250 / Retail Corridor Β· Midland Β· American Gastropub
Cork & Pig is doing more with wine than anyone should expect from a retail-corridor gastropub in Midland. The markups sting a little at the top end, but the Social Hour pricing and the breadth of the by-the-glass program make this an easy recommendation for locals who want something better than house red.

Texas Sun Winery is a genuinely weird and fun detour in a city not known for wine culture β the sangria program is novel, the Texas wine wall is an unexpected bonus, and the by-the-glass markup is something to watch. Come for the experience, order the bottle, skip the solo glass.

Texas Sun is a genuine local story in a city that doesn't have many of them, and for that alone it earns a visit. Just set your expectations to 'fun afternoon on the patio' rather than 'deep wine exploration' and you'll leave happy.

Pi Social isn't a wine destination, but it doesn't bill itself as one. If you're in Midland, grabbing a glass of Prosecco before a pizza on the patio, this does the job without gouging you β and that's a reasonable ask.

Texas Sun Winery Bistro is doing something genuinely unusual in a city where the default move is a steakhouse Cab β a house-label global list with fair prices, 38 pours by the glass, and Armenian wines you won't find anywhere else in the Permian Basin. Send your most wine-curious friend here and tell them to ignore the Malbec.
