Wingman Metrics
You walk into a Decatur sushi and ramen spot and expect a sake list, maybe a couple of Sancerres, and a Kendall-Jackson doing nothing in the corner. Instead, Takumi hands you a 19-bottle list with orange wine, Champagne, and an Austrian Zweigelt. We were not prepared for this, in the best way.
For a compact list, this one punches well above its weight class. The whites lean Loire and Central Europe — François Chidaine Sauvignon Blanc, a Willems Willems Riesling Feinherb, and a Denis Meunier Vouvray all point toward someone who actually thought about what works with umami-forward food. The reds are similarly considered: a Mencía from Bierzo, a Gamay Touraine, an Aglianico, and a Zweigelt from Carnuntum give you options that feel intentional rather than default. The weak link is two Cabs anchoring the far end — a $65 Loren Crossing and a $135 Caterwaul that feel like they wandered in from a different restaurant's list.
Seventeen of the nineteen bottles are available by the glass, which is genuinely rare and deeply appreciated. Glass pours run $13–$18, which is reasonable given the quality of producers represented. The Biokult Naken Pinot Gris Orange Wine at $15/glass is the single most interesting pour on this menu and the kind of thing you don't usually get by the glass at a ramen joint.
The Bottom Line
Takumi is quietly doing something interesting with its wine program — thoughtful producers, fair prices, and nearly everything available by the glass. If you're eating ramen in Decatur and want to drink a Gamay or an orange Pinot Gris instead of a mass-market sake bomb, this is your spot. Don't sleep on it.

Sapori di Napoli isn't trying to be a wine destination, and that's fine — it's a pizzeria that put genuine thought into sixteen Italian bottles instead of padding the list with grocery-store fillers. If you're looking for a deep cellar or adventurous pours, keep walking; if you want a solid Valpolicella or a proper Brunello with your Neapolitan pie, this list delivers exactly what it promises.

Avellino's earns its stripes as a Decatur pizza institution, but the wine program is a blind spot we can't responsibly rate in detail — the data simply isn't there. Come for the Tutta Guarnita, grab a beer or a soft drink, and save the serious wine drinking for somewhere that cares about the glass as much as the crust.

Kindred is punching above its weight class with a white and sparkling program that most full-service wine bars would envy, all at prices that won't make you wince when the check arrives. The red selection is the weak link, but if you lean white, rosé, or bubbly — and many of us should — this list is worth your attention. Send your friends here and tell them to start with the Vermentino.

La Tavola deserves a real wine list — the food and the room both demand one. Right now, five bottles with no reds and no whites is a disservice to a kitchen that's clearly cooking at a higher level than the wine program suggests. Order the Ca' Del Bosco if you're drinking wine, and hope they overhaul this list before your next visit.

Fork & Vine earns its Wild Card badge by doing something most casual New American spots don't bother with: stocking wines that require a little explanation and trusting their guests to be curious. Markup is fair, the by-the-glass selection is genuinely generous, and the list skews European in ways that reward adventurous drinkers. If you're eating in Decatur and want a glass of something you haven't had before, this is where to go.

Umi is built around Champagne, and if that's your thing, there are genuinely exciting bottles here — from the Billecart-Salmon Rosé to the Salon Cuvée S for when someone at the table is feeling reckless. The markups run steep across the board, and outside of sparkling, the list doesn't have much to say. But if you're celebrating something and want bubbles with your omakase, this is exactly the right room.

Snap Thai Fish House has no business having a wine list this size — and yet here it is, doing something genuinely useful by loading up on crisp whites that actually work with spicy, aromatic Thai food. The markups are steep across the board, so target the Riesling and the Jermann and let your wallet breathe a little. If you're eating Thai and want wine instead of beer, this is a far better situation than you'd find at most comparable spots in Atlanta.

JP Sushi earns its reputation on the food — the bento boxes and spicy tuna rolls are clearly the draw here, not the wine. Skip the wine list entirely, ask about sake or beer, and save your bottle orders for a restaurant that actually cares about what's in your glass.

Bangkok Station's wine list does the bare minimum — it has wine, it's mostly available by the glass, and nothing is undrinkable. But with markups that sting on recognizable bottles and zero creativity in selection for a cuisine that rewards adventurous pours, it's hard to get excited. Order the Rosé, enjoy the food, and don't overthink it.
