You show up for fish tacos and lake views, and then the wine list hands you Kosta Browne, Corison, and Peter Michael. It's a genuine surprise — the kind of list that makes you do a double-take at a waterfront lodge that also sells cheeseburgers. The ambition here is real, even if the prices are resort-altitude.
About 85 labels lean hard into California's greatest hits — Napa Cabernet, Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, Russian River Pinot — but the list earns its stripes by actually naming serious producers instead of coasting on brand names. Spottswoode, Aubert, Wayfarer, and Hyde de Villaine aren't the kind of names you expect next to Fresh Fish & Chips. France gets a respectful nod with Burgundy (Domaine Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin) and Champagne representation, and Oregon's Willamette Valley fills out the Pinot flank. The gap is everywhere outside those three geographies — no Southern Hemisphere, no Spain, no Italy to speak of — but within its lane, this list punches well above the lodge-restaurant average.
Sixteen by-the-glass options is a solid number for a restaurant of this type, spanning $13–$20 for a 6oz pour and up to $30 for a 9oz. The range covers Champagne, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir with enough variety to keep the table happy across styles. Rotation frequency is unclear, but the BTG bottles top out around $78 retail equivalent, which suggests they're not just dumping leftover house wine into the pour.
Turley Juvenile Zinfandel California — $65
Turley's Juvenile is one of the more food-friendly Zins in the game — bright, not overblown — and at $65 in a resort context it's one of the few bottles on this list that doesn't feel punishing. Drink it with the burger.
Merry Edwards Chardonnay Russian River Valley
Most tables at a lodge like this are reaching for the Cab, but Merry Edwards' RRV Chardonnay is a quietly serious bottle — rich without being overworked, with enough acidity to hold up against the fried items on the menu. It gets overlooked every time.
Krug Grande Cuvée Brut Champagne
At $299, Krug is Krug — but this is a casual waterfront spot where you're probably eating fried chicken. There's nothing wrong with the wine; there's plenty wrong with drinking it here at a margin that makes your eyes water. Save Krug for a place that'll give it the proper glass and the proper moment.
Wayfarer Chardonnay Fort Ross-Seaview + Fresh Fish & Chips
Wayfarer's Fort Ross-Seaview Chardonnay is coastal, saline, and brisk — it cuts through fried batter the way a good white Burgundy would, but with a California personality that matches the lake air outside. This is the move.
The Bottom Line
Sunnyside is a casual lodge restaurant wearing a serious wine list under its flannel — the markup is steep and it won't win any awards for staff expertise, but the producer lineup is legitimately impressive for where you're sitting. If you're already at the lake, this is absolutely worth ordering a real bottle.

Los Arcos isn't destination wine drinking, but it's doing more than most Mexican spots at altitude bother to do. If you're coming off the mountain and want something decent in the glass without a resort markup nightmare, it delivers.

Rubicon isn't trying to be a wine destination, and it doesn't pretend to be one — it's a family-friendly pizza spot in a ski village with a list that keeps the table happy without breaking the experience. Order the Chianti, eat the pizza, and save the deep-dive wine conversation for somewhere with a cellar.

The Bistro's wine list is exactly what you'd expect from a luxury ski resort: well-stored, competently poured, and priced for people who are already spending a lot on lodging. If you came here for wine discovery, wrong mountain — but if you want a solid glass of California Cab next to a fire with a view of the Sierra Nevada, you'll be just fine.

The Lodge surprises — in the best way — with a wine list that has no business being this considered at a neighborhood golf course restaurant in the Sierra. Markups creep toward steep on the prestige bottles, but the depth and range here beat 90% of similarly-priced mountain dining rooms. Worth the detour if you're in Truckee and want something more than a grocery store Cabernet with your ribeye.
