Opening a wine list in Truckee and finding Cruse Wine Co., Lichen Estate, and a late-disgorged Schramsberg is not something we expected — and that surprise is the whole point. Stella has put genuine thought into 66 bottles when most mountain-town restaurants are coasting on Kendall-Jackson and a token Malbec. This list reads like someone who actually cares built it.

Moody's is the kind of place that earns a second look the moment you see Tablas Creek rosé and a Cru Beaujolais on the same all-glass list in a mountain town. If you're passing through Truckee, this is worth a stop for the wine alone.

Bar of America is a reliable wine stop in a mountain town that could easily get away with serving mediocre wine at inflated prices — and to its credit, it mostly doesn't. The markup is fair, the Chardonnay selection is deeper than it needs to be, and the Scharffenberger at $52 is worth ordering. If you want adventure, look elsewhere; if you want a dependable glass after a day on the slopes, this works.
