First Impression

The wine list at Sophia's reads like someone's first attempt at building a program from a distributor catalog. Prices are steep, the selection is confused, and the geographic labels are straight-up wrong—Michelle Riesling from Santa Lucia Highlands and Donna Paula Malbec from France will make any wine nerd wince.

Selection Deep Dive

This list plays it painfully safe with crowd-pleasing names but botches the basics. We're talking Cavit Moscato listed as Chilean (it's Italian Trentino), a $382 Riesling that's likely Dr. Loosen or Chateau Ste. Michelle wildly overpriced, and Hand of Time Chardonnay at $199 when it retails for $60. The selection skews toward big, commercial producers with zero personality or regional storytelling. No Italian wines worth mentioning at an Italian restaurant? That's a red flag the size of the Amalfi Coast.

By the Glass

We couldn't confirm their glass pour program, but given the bottle list chaos, we're not optimistic. At this price point and style of restaurant, you'd expect 8-10 solid BTG options with Italian focus, but the evidence suggests they're pouring the same confused mix. If they're charging $18 for Cavit Moscato by the glass, walk away.

💰Best Value

Prosecco NV — $45

At $45, it's the only bottle here that won't make you feel robbed—crisp bubbles work with antipasti

💎Hidden Gem

Vermentino from Sardinia (if they add it)

They desperately need Italian whites; Vermentino would nail the coastal vibe and pair with their seafood

Skip This

Riesling Michelle

This bottle retails for $80-120 max—you're paying 3-4x markup for a wine that should cost $150 here

🍽️Perfect Pairing

Prosecco NV + Filet of Sole (Bella Sophia)

The wine's acidity and bubbles cut through the delicate sole preparation without overwhelming it

The Bottom Line

Sophia's nails the ambiance but completely fumbles the wine program. Unless they fix the pricing, hire someone who knows geography, and add actual Italian bottles, stick to cocktails or BYOB if they allow it.
