Open the wine list at Biaggi's and you're immediately in familiar territory — a lot of California Cabernet, some red blends with cool names, and a smattering of Italian labels to remind you that yes, this is technically an Italian restaurant. It's competent, it's comfortable, and it's about as adventurous as a beige cardigan.
The 44-label list leans heavily West Coast, with Cabernet Sauvignon taking up a disproportionate amount of real estate — everything from the approachable Joel Gott 815 to the big-ticket Caymus and Silver Oak Alexander Valley. Red blends fill in the gaps with crowd-pleasing names like The Prisoner and Conundrum. There are Italian bones here if you look — Allegrini's Palazzo della Torre and ColleMassari Rigoleto are genuinely solid picks that nod to the cuisine — but they're surrounded by so much California comfort food that the Italian identity gets a little lost. Pinot Noir and Malbec reportedly round out the back half, but the list's heart is clearly Cab country.
We weren't able to confirm the exact by-the-glass lineup or how often it rotates, which is itself a mild red flag — a restaurant this size should have that front and center. Based on the broader list, expect the usual suspects poured by the glass: something from Columbia Crest, probably a red blend option, and at least one Cab that sounds exciting but is marked up accordingly.
ColleMassari Rigoleto — null
No price confirmed, but this Tuscan red from a respected Maremma producer is the most honest expression of Italian wine on the list. In a sea of California blockbusters, it's the one that actually makes sense with pasta on the table.
Allegrini Palazzo della Torre
A partial-appassimento Veronese red that most tables will skip in favor of something with a catchier label. That's a mistake. Allegrini knows what they're doing, and this bottle has more complexity than everything else on the Italian side of this list combined.
Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Caymus is fine — it's always fine — but you're paying a significant premium for a wine that's become a status symbol more than a quality statement. The restaurant markup on a bottle this recognizable is rarely kind, and there are better Cabs on this list for less.
Allegrini Palazzo della Torre + Rigatoni Bolognese
The Palazzo della Torre's dried fruit richness and savory backbone are exactly what a meaty, slow-cooked Bolognese needs. It's the most Italian thing you can do at Biaggi's short of actually flying to Verona.
The Bottom Line
Biaggi's Fort Wayne is a safe harbor for anyone who wants a glass of California Cab with their chicken parmesan and doesn't want any surprises. If you dig past the obvious picks, there's a short but legitimate Italian selection worth your attention — but the list as a whole isn't why you're coming here.
