Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Shakers doesn't try to be something it's not — 14 labels, all available by the glass, priced between $9 and $11. This is a neighborhood bar-and-grill that wants you fed and poured without a lot of fuss, and the wine list reflects exactly that.
The list leans hard on California with a handful of international flags planted for variety — a French rosé, an Italian Pinot Grigio, a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and a Washington State Riesling round out an otherwise West Coast-heavy lineup. You're not finding any small producers or regional surprises here; this is supermarket-shelf territory with names like McManis, Ramsay, and Julia James. That said, these aren't bad wines — they're just predictable. The Cigar Box Malbec listing is worth a second look, though it's from California, not Mendoza, which is a minor but notable identity quirk.
The entire list of 14 bottles is available by the glass, which is legitimately great for a casual spot — no locked-away bottles you can't try without a full commitment. Pours run $9–$11, which is reasonable for Roanoke and keeps the evening from getting expensive. No rotating program or seasonal additions seem to be in play — what you see is what you get, night after night.
Lone Birch Riesling, Washington State — $9/glass
Washington Riesling at $9 a glass is a genuinely solid deal — the Columbia Valley does this grape well, and it's a style most guests won't expect to be good. A rare moment of regional interest on an otherwise predictable list.
Atlantique Rosé, France
It's the only French wine on the list and the only bottle that hints at something outside the California comfort zone. Most people ordering wine here will reach for the Cab or Chardonnay out of habit — don't. This is the move, especially in warmer months.
Oak Vineyards Chardonnay, California
Leading with a house Chardonnay from a brand called Oak Vineyards is telling you exactly what you're getting — a soft, oak-forward pour that'll be fine and forgettable. There are better options on this same list for the same $9.
Ramsay Cabernet Sauvignon, California + Baby Back Ribs
Ramsay Cab is a workhorse California red with enough dark fruit and structure to hold its own against smoky, saucy ribs. It's the most expensive glass on the list at $11, but it earns it here — the richness of the meat actually makes the wine taste better than it would on its own.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Shakers isn't a wine destination — it's a reliable neighborhood spot where the wine program does its job without drama. If you're here for ribs and a casual pour, you'll leave satisfied; just don't show up expecting discovery.

TGI Friday's Roanoke is a fine place to grab a beer or a Jack and Coke, but the wine program is a corporate afterthought with steep markups on bottom-shelf bottles. Order a cocktail, save the wine for somewhere that gives a damn.

Abuelo's wine list exists to check a box, not to enhance your dinner — stick to the cocktails and revisit this list never. If someone at your table insists on wine, go Joel Gott and call it a night.

The markups are honest and the Mollydooker pour is a genuine saving grace, but this list exists to check a corporate box, not to help you drink well. Order the Mollydooker with your steak, skip any bottle over $40, and keep your expectations calibrated to the Bloomin' Onion energy of the room.

The Pine Room is a great spot for a drink and a burger in a handsome historic room, but the wine list is an afterthought in a state with a legitimate wine culture worth showcasing. Order a cocktail or ask for whatever's on tap, and don't make a trip here specifically for the wine.

On the Rise is a genuinely charming spot for baked goods and brunch, but its wine program is an afterthought with three options and zero depth. Order the bread, skip the wine list, and grab a coffee instead.

Hollywood's is a genuinely charming neighborhood spot, and the wine list is exactly what it needs to be for a casual lunch crowd — cheap, safe, and inoffensive. Don't come here for the wine; come here for the soup, and order the Riesling if you want something in your glass.

Chili's Yuma is a place to drink a margarita and eat fajitas, and there is absolutely no shame in that. Just don't come here for the wine — order a cocktail, enjoy your ribs, and save the bottle of wine for somewhere that actually cares.

Tippecanoe Place is a beautiful room with a wine list that plays it very, very safe — fine for a anniversary dinner where the ambiance is doing most of the work, but don't come here expecting the wine to match the architecture. Order the Jordan, enjoy the mansion, and leave the exploration for another night.

The Heathman isn't going to make you rethink your relationship with wine, but it's a genuinely decent hotel list anchored by wines worth drinking — and the Monday/Wednesday half-price bottle deal turns a steep markup into something actually worth your time. Show up on a deal night, order the Col Solare, and you'll leave happy.
