The Wild Sage wine list reads like it was built for the Vail corridor crowd — recognizable names, California-heavy, and priced accordingly. Nothing here is going to surprise a seasoned wine drinker, but nothing is going to embarrass anyone either. It's the kind of list that says 'we thought about this' without saying 'we really thought about this.'
Thirty-one labels is a tight number, and almost all of that real estate goes to West Coast standbys. You've got Silverado and J. Lohr holding down Cabernet, Benton Lane and King Estate flying the Willamette Valley flag for Pinot Noir, and Rombauer doing its predictable crowd-pleasing Chardonnay thing. There's a token nod to Argentina with the Portillo Malbec and a lone French rosé via La Vieille Ferme, but don't come here hunting for Burgundy, Barolo, or anything that requires a backstory. The list is geographically narrow and clearly built around what sells fast at a casual Colorado restaurant, not around what's interesting.
Ten-plus by-the-glass options is a respectable count for a 31-bottle list, and the $7–$15 price range keeps things accessible for a mountain town. You're getting the Decoy Sauvignon Blanc, La Crema, Chateau St. Michelle Pinot Gris — recognizable, drinkable, nothing bold. The glass program feels like it was designed to move bottles efficiently, not to showcase anything worth talking about.
Portillo Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina — $34
Portillo is consistently overdelivers for its retail price point, and at $34 on a list where bottles push $90, it's the most honest value on the menu. Drink it, don't think about it.
Benton Lane Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, OR
Most people at a place like this reach for Napa Cab or Decoy Merlot on autopilot. Benton Lane is a legit Willamette producer with real acidity and actual terroir expression — it's the most interesting bottle on a list that mostly plays it safe.
Silverado Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, CA
At $90, you're paying a serious mountain tax on a wine that retails around $28–$32. Silverado is perfectly fine Napa Cab, but it's not a $90 bottle anywhere on planet Earth except vacation-town restaurant lists. Hard pass.
Seghesio Zinfandel, Sonoma Coast, CA + Grilled ribeye or any red meat special
Seghesio makes some of the best Zinfandel in California — bold, spicy, with enough structure to hold up against charred beef. It's the move at a Western-style American restaurant if you can track it down on the list.
The Bottom Line
The Wild Sage is your dependable neighborhood spot in Eagle Ranch — the wine list won't blow your mind, but it won't embarrass you at dinner either. Watch the markups on the top-shelf Napa bottles and stick to the mid-range, and you'll be fine.

The markups sting a little, but the depth and curation are real, and having a knowledgeable person on the floor to help navigate it makes all the difference.

Alpenrose is a Wild Card in the best sense: a small, themed list that actually commits to its bit, with a few genuinely rare pours you won't find anywhere else in Vail. Markups are steep and the program could use more energy, but if you're eating schnitzel and drinking Austrian Zweigelt in a Bavarian chalet at 8,150 feet, that's not nothing.

Golden Eagle Inn is the kind of reliable mountain wine list that won't embarrass you on a date or a client dinner, but it'll charge you for the altitude at every turn. The Brunello and the Bouchard Beaune are genuine bright spots — find those, skip the Veuve, and you'll have a good night.

13 Coins Bellevue earns its Wild Card badge by being a late-night diner that actually cares enough about wine to stock a geographically diverse list — not groundbreaking, but genuinely unexpected for the format. If Sunday happy hour is your move, this place becomes a legitimately fun spot to drink Washington wine over a Caesar salad at 11pm, which is a sentence we didn't think we'd be writing.
