Wingman Metrics
You're sitting poolside at Indian Springs resort, the fire pits are going, and someone hands you a wine list with 27 labels. It's not trying to be Meadowood — and honestly, that's fine. The list is short enough to read in one pass and wide enough that you won't feel stuck drinking something you don't want.
The list pulls from a sensible cross-section of wine country: Napa Cab, Paso Robles blends, Willamette Valley Pinot, some French ringers from Bordeaux, Chablis, and Provence, and a couple of Italian and Southern Hemisphere entries to keep things honest. Highlights include the Resonance Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley (a Jadot-backed project that punches above its resort-wine placement), the Maison Champy Chablis for white Burgundy lovers, and the Podernuovo a Palazzine Therra Toscana Red Blend for anyone who wandered in looking for something less predictable than California Cab. Gaps are real — no Zinfandel in Calistoga is a mild sin, and there's no Rhône representation to speak of. But for a resort restaurant, this is a list someone actually thought about.
Eight to twelve pours by the glass at $12–$20 covers the basics well, with bubbles from both Mumm Napa and Roederer Estate Brut Rosé available — the Roederer at $22 a glass is a solid anchor for the program. The glass range leans California-heavy, which makes sense given where you are, but there's enough variety that a white Burgundy drinker or a rosé-only table won't feel stranded. Rotation appears limited; this is largely a set-it list rather than a seasonal pour situation.
Maison Champy Chablis — $45
At a 50% markup over a $30 retail bottle, this is the most fairly priced wine on the list by a comfortable margin. Clean, mineral Chablis in the middle of Napa Valley at a price that doesn't make you wince — order it without guilt.
Resonance Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley
Most people at a resort wine list are reaching for the California Cab. Don't. Resonance is the Jacques Jadot-backed Oregon project and brings proper Willamette Valley elegance — red cherry, forest floor, restrained oak — to a list that mostly shouts louder than it needs to.
Chateau Roquefort Bordeaux Blanc
At $33 on a bottle retailing around $18, you're paying 83% over retail for a perfectly fine but unremarkable Bordeaux Blanc. The Maison Champy Chablis is right there and it's a far better use of your money at nearly the same price.
Maison Saint Aix Rosé, Provence + Wood-Fired Pizza
Aix rosé is dry, bright, and built for exactly this situation — something wood-fired, slightly charred, eaten outside. The wine's herbal note and crisp acidity cut through the char without fighting the toppings. This is the patio-and-pizza combo that Sam's was made for.
The Bottom Line
Sam's Social Club isn't a destination wine list, but it's a genuinely competent one for a resort setting — fair markups on the French bottles, a few interesting picks hiding in plain sight, and enough variety that you won't feel like you're drinking whatever was left on the loading dock. If you're spending a weekend in Calistoga, you could do a lot worse than a glass of Resonance Pinot by the fire.

Elsewhere is doing something genuinely useful in St. Helena — keeping the lights on after dinner and keeping the list interesting enough to justify the detour. We need more time with the actual list before we'd call it a must, but the bones are right.

The Elene is doing something genuinely uncommon for a Napa hotel restaurant: it's built a wine list with a real perspective. Pricing is fair, the whites and sparkling section is worth the visit on its own, and if you're tired of being handed the same Napa Cab lineup every time you sit down, this is your spot.

In the heart of Napa Valley, this hotel lounge has assembled a seven-bottle list with zero local wines and markups that would make a Vegas pool bar blush — order a cocktail and wait until dinner. There are better places to drink wine within walking distance of almost anywhere in this region.

Meadowood's wine program is doing exactly what it should at this price point — a focused, deeply intelligent list with real range and the staff to back it up. The markups are steep because the room is expensive, but if you're already here, drink well and don't second-guess it.

Napa Kitchen & Wine earns its place as a solid, unfussy option for anyone who wants a wide glass selection and fair pricing without committing to a bottle — just don't come here expecting to discover anything. It's a reliable pour, not a destination.

BANK is a reliable spot to drink well enough in a comfortable setting — the sommelier presence and Napa-forward list keep it from being a lazy hotel afterthought. Just don't expect to be surprised, and don't be shocked when the markup reminds you this is a Westin.
