Wingman Metrics
The wine list here is exactly what you expect from a laminated insert tucked next to the kids' menu — a handful of names your grocery store stocks by the case. There's no local angle, no seasonal rotation, nothing that suggests anyone at corporate thought about Abilene specifically. It exists because people ask for wine with their shrimp, and this is the answer.
The entire list reads like a greatest hits of California mass-market brands: Kendall-Jackson, Robert Mondavi Private Selection, Barefoot, Ecco Domani. Every varietal box gets checked — Chardonnay, Cab, Pinot Grigio, Moscato — but there's zero depth, no regional curiosity, and nothing that would make a wine-interested diner pause. This is a list designed to not offend, which means it also never excites. If you were hoping for something to match the coastal seafood theme — a Muscadet, a Picpoul, literally anything with a zip of salinity — keep hoping.
You're looking at roughly 8 to 12 pours, all in the $7–$11 range, all from the same short roster of national brands. The selection doesn't rotate and there's no by-the-glass program to speak of — it's the same options whether you visit in February or August. That said, $7 for a glass of Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio is at least honest about what it is.
Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio — $7/glass
It's an entry-level pour, no question, but at $7 it's priced proportionally to what you're getting. Light, inoffensive, and it won't fight your shrimp platter. Lowest stakes option on the menu.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay
Nobody's calling KJ a hidden gem in 2024, but at a table full of Barefoot drinkers, this is the step up most people overlook. It's a legitimately well-made commercial Chardonnay and it drinks above its price point at a chain like this.
Barefoot Moscato
You can buy a bottle of this at Walmart for under $8. Whatever they're charging here is too much. If you want something sweet with your meal, get a lemonade.
Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay + Shrimp Scampi
The buttery, lightly oaked KJ Chardonnay mirrors the butter-and-garlic richness of the scampi without getting knocked sideways by it. It's not a transcendent pairing, but it's the best this list has to offer for a classic seafood dish.
❌ The Bottom Line
Skip the wine, order the biscuits — but if you have to pick something, grab the Kendall-Jackson and call it a night. Red Lobster isn't trying to be a wine destination, and this list makes absolutely no effort to pretend otherwise.
Mall of Abilene · Abilene · Wine Bar / Small Plates
For a wine bar inside a shopping mall in Abilene, this clears the bar more comfortably than you'd expect. Don't come looking for anything to geek out over, but if you want a decent glass and a charcuterie board mid-errand run, it delivers.

Cattleman's Exchange isn't a wine destination, but it's not a disaster either — it's a hotel steakhouse doing hotel steakhouse things. If you're in Abilene and need a Cab with your beef, you'll find something that works; just don't expect the list to surprise you.

Send a friend here for the Chicken Fried Steak and a cold beer — the wine list is a checkbox, not a destination. No one choosing Cheddar's in Abilene is coming for the Burgundy, and the list doesn't pretend otherwise.

Abuelo's isn't a wine destination and it has no interest in becoming one — the margaritas are the point and the wine list exists mostly as a formality. If you're committed to wine with your enchiladas, grab the Joel Gott and move on.

Beehive is a solid steakhouse that simply doesn't care about wine — and the list proves it. Order the ribeye, get a whiskey or a beer, and save the wine enthusiasm for somewhere that returns the favor.

The Mill isn't trying to challenge you — it's trying to make you feel good on a weeknight in Abilene, and it mostly succeeds. Fair prices, a comfortable space, and a half-price bottle Wednesday make it an easy neighborhood reliable worth knowing about.
