Wingman Metrics
Walking into Purple Sky on 25th Street feels less like a tasting room and more like a friend's living room that happens to have a wine bar in it. The list is short β we're talking a handful of house-made bottles β but in Utah, where the liquor landscape is genuinely hostile to ambition, the fact that someone is making and pouring their own wine in Ogden deserves real credit. Expectations calibrated accordingly.
This is a fully house-produced list, which means you're not here to hunt Burgundy or argue about Barolo β you're here to taste what a Utah winery can actually do. The range hits the expected bases: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, a Red Blend, Chardonnay, RosΓ©, and Riesling, covering enough ground to satisfy a table with mixed preferences. The Syrah stands out as the most interesting bet on a list that otherwise plays it relatively safe, and the Riesling suggests someone in the cellar has at least a passing interest in aromatics. Gaps are real β no sparkling, no orange wine, no real outliers β but given the production scale, the lineup is coherent.
Everything is available by the glass, which is essentially the whole point here. Flights are the move if you're new to the place β they let you map the range without committing to a full pour of something that might not land. Glass pricing runs $10β$12 across the board, which is honest money for a local producer.
Purple Sky Winery Syrah β $12
At a 29% markup over retail, this is the fairest pour on the list β and Syrah tends to be where small producers actually show personality. It's the pick if you want to take the winery seriously.
Purple Sky Winery Riesling
Most people ordering at a tasting room like this will default to red, which means the Riesling gets ignored. That's a mistake β aromatic whites are genuinely hard to pull off at small scale, and if Purple Sky has figured it out even partially, this is the most interesting thing on the list.
Purple Sky Winery Riesling
Wait β yes, it's also the hidden gem, but at a 50% markup it's the least fairly priced bottle in the lineup. If the glass doesn't wow you on the flight, don't buy a bottle to take home. The value math doesn't hold up the way the Syrah does.
Purple Sky Winery Red Blend + Charcuterie and Cheese Board
A house Red Blend is built to be crowd-friendly and approachable β which is exactly what you want against salty cured meats and a range of cheeses. No sharp edges, no surprises, just a wine that stays out of the food's way while keeping the table happy.
π² The Bottom Line
Purple Sky is not trying to compete with the wine world β it's trying to give Ogden something it largely doesn't have, and on those terms, it mostly succeeds. Send a friend here for the experience, not the cellar depth.
South Ogden Β· Ogden Β· Mexican / Cantina
Cactus Grill is a solid spot for tacos, enchiladas, and a well-made margarita β the wine list is just along for the ride. If wine matters to you tonight, order the Cooper & Thief and move on; if it really matters to you, come back another night.

Timbermine earns its reputation as a reliable Ogden institution on the strength of its food and atmosphere β the wine list is just along for the ride. Come for the prime rib, order something red and Californian, and don't overthink it.

South Ogden / Riverdale Road Corridor Β· Ogden Β· Steakhouse
Ruby River's wine list is a utility player β it shows up, does what's needed for a steak dinner, and goes home. We wouldn't make the drive for the wine, but if you're already there for the prime rib, the Chateau Ste. Michelle will take care of you.

Downtown Ogden Β· Ogden Β· Fine Dining American/European-Influenced
If you think Utah wine is a punchline, this place is the correction β it's a small, serious list built around a real winemaking operation, and the value holds up. Send a curious friend here; tell them to order the La Crescent and not ask too many questions.

Mercantile isn't here to impress wine nerds, and it doesn't try to. What it offers is a genuinely low-stakes, fairly priced place to drink decent West Coast wines with a cheese board in hand β and in Ogden, that's worth something.

Ogden Beer Company is a genuinely fun riverfront spot β just order a Cougar Juice wheat and call it a day. The wine list exists, technically, but it's not trying to impress anyone and you shouldn't let it impress you.
