Wingman Metrics
The wine list at Poseidon is exactly what you'd expect from a polished coastal spot on Hilton Head — familiar names, safe bets, nothing that'll make your jaw drop or your wallet weep too badly. It's a list built for tourists who know what they like, not for people hunting obscure pours. That's not a crime, but it does set the tone.
Twenty-seven labels isn't deep, but the spread covers the bases: California dominates with the likes of Seghesio, Bonanza by Caymus, and J Lohr, while Oregon shows up respectably with King Estate Pinot Gris and Amity's White Pinot Noir from Willamette. The lone European standout is the Castelfeder Pinot Bianco from Italy, which looks conspicuously out of place among the crowd pleasers — and we mean that as a compliment. There are no surprises here from the Southern Hemisphere or Iberian Peninsula, and the Champagne section begins and ends with Veuve Clicquot, which is fine but hardly adventurous for a restaurant with seafood front and center.
Nineteen by-the-glass options across a 27-bottle list is actually a generous ratio — most of what's on the menu you can try without committing to a bottle. Pours run $9 to $16, which is reasonable for a resort-area restaurant. Don't expect the list to rotate much; this feels like a set-it-and-forget-it program.
Castelfeder Pinot Bianco, Italy — Not listed individually
In a list full of California workhorses, the Castelfeder Pinot Bianco is the sleeper. Crisp, mineral-driven, and made for seafood — it's the most food-friendly bottle on the list and the kind of wine that makes your tablemates ask what you're drinking.
Amity White Pinot Noir, Willamette
Most people scroll right past a White Pinot Noir without a second thought, which is exactly why you should order it. Made from Pinot Noir grapes with minimal skin contact, this Willamette Valley pour is textured, slightly savory, and completely unexpected — a genuinely fun choice at a seafood-forward spot.
Merryvale Sauvignon Blanc, Sonoma
At $68 a bottle, this is the most expensive pour on the list — and Merryvale Sauvignon Blanc isn't a wine that commands that kind of real estate. You can find it well under $20 at retail, which means you're paying roughly 3.5x for the privilege. Skip it and redirect those dollars toward something more interesting.
King Estate Pinot Gris, Willamette + Crab Cakes
King Estate's Pinot Gris brings enough weight and stone fruit richness to stand up to a buttery crab cake without stepping on the delicate seafood flavor. It's the easy call at this restaurant and one that actually makes sense.
✔️ The Bottom Line
Poseidon isn't a wine destination, but it's a competent coastal list that gets the job done if you order strategically. Stick to Oregon and Italy, dodge the Merryvale, and you'll drink well enough to enjoy that waterfront view.
Shelter Cove · Hilton Head Island · Seafood / New American
Sea Salt isn't trying to win a wine list award and it shows, but it's not trying to rip you off on selection either — just on price. If you're already there for the scallops and the view, the wine list will serve you fine; just set your expectations to vacation mode and not discovery mode.

Harbour Town / Sea Pines · Hilton Head Island · Resort / American
The Harbour Town Clubhouse wine list is exactly what it needs to be for its audience — familiar, functional, and unlikely to offend anyone in a golf shirt. Just know going in that you're paying resort prices for resort selections, and calibrate your expectations accordingly.

Reilley's is a reliable beach-town bar that happens to have wine — not a wine destination that happens to serve food. Hit it during happy hour for half-off house pours, order the Rosé with your crab cakes, and keep your expectations calibrated to the vibe.

Mid-island · Hilton Head Island · Seafood / Retail-to-Table
Redfish is the kind of wine list that works better than it should for a coastal tourist spot — 400 bottles is nothing to dismiss, even if the selection leans on crowd-pleasing California names and the pricing reflects the zip code. Go in knowing what you want, order the Riesling by the glass, and you'll have a fine night.

Shelter Cove · Hilton Head Island · Upscale Coastal American
The Pearl is a solid, well-dressed list that serves its upscale coastal crowd without rocking any boats. Bring a group, let someone order the Miraval, and don't let the Silver Oak get near your credit card.

Mid-island · Hilton Head Island · Italian
Il Carpaccio is a reliable dinner option for Hilton Head visitors who want a glass of something recognizable without overthinking it — but anyone hoping to find Italy on the wine list will come up short. Drink the bubbles, enjoy the pasta, and don't expect the list to challenge you.

Broad Creek / Skull Creek · Hilton Head Island · Seafood
Skull Creek Boathouse is not a wine destination, and it doesn't try to be — the sunset over the creek is doing the heavy lifting. But the list is priced fairly, the glass selection is wide enough to find something that works, and for a high-volume waterfront spot, that's honestly enough.

Rimrock Marketplace · Grand Junction · Seafood
Red Lobster's wine list is a chain afterthought with steep markups on brands you could grab at any gas station in Grand Junction. Skip the wine, order a cocktail, and save your wine budget for somewhere that actually tried.

McCormick & Schmick's Bethesda isn't a wine destination — it's a corporate seafood chain with a wine list to match, priced for convenience, not discovery. Order a cocktail, or bring a bottle if they allow corkage.
