Wingman Metrics
Walking into New York Kitchen's tasting room feels less like a restaurant and more like a love letter to the Finger Lakes β the kind of place where the wine list IS the concept. Sixty New York State labels, flights on the menu, and a room that clearly knows what it's about. It's not trying to be everything; it's trying to be the best possible version of one very specific thing.
The list is tight, focused, and refreshingly unashamed of its regional identity β all 60 labels are New York State, full stop. Finger Lakes heavyweights like Dr. Konstantin Frank and Anthony Road Wine Company anchor the white wine section, where the Rieslings alone could keep you busy for an entire afternoon. Heron Hill brings some range on the red and rosΓ© side. What's missing is any depth outside New York, but that's entirely the point β this isn't a gap, it's a stance.
Twenty pours by the glass at $8β$14 is genuinely impressive for a tasting room of this size, and the flight format makes exploration easy and low-commitment. The range spans whites, reds, rosΓ©s, and likely dessert-style pours given the Finger Lakes' strength in late-harvest styles. Rotation appears seasonal, which keeps repeat visits interesting.
Anthony Road Wine Company Riesling β $10
Anthony Road is one of the Finger Lakes' most consistent producers, and getting their Riesling in the $8β$14 glass range at a tasting room that actually stores and serves it properly is a genuine steal compared to what you'd pay at a Manhattan restaurant.
Heron Hill Winery Red
Most visitors here chase the Rieslings β rightfully so β but Heron Hill's red program gets overlooked. The Finger Lakes doesn't always get credit for its reds, and Heron Hill is one of the producers quietly making the case. Worth a flight slot.
Craft Beer Flight
The beer is fine and locally sourced, but you're at a world-class Finger Lakes wine tasting room. Spending your budget on beer here is like ordering pasta at a sushi restaurant β nobody's stopping you, but you're missing the entire point of the trip.
Dr. Konstantin Frank Riesling + Local Cheese and Charcuterie Board
Dr. Frank's Riesling β bright, mineral, with just enough residual sweetness β cuts through the fat of cured meats and plays off the salt in aged New York cheeses. It's the tasting room's most iconic pour alongside its most shareable plate. Hard to do better.
π² The Bottom Line
New York Kitchen's tasting room is the Finger Lakes in a glass β focused, proud, and genuinely good. If you're anywhere near Canandaigua and care about American wine, this is a mandatory stop.
South Main Street / lakefront Β· Canandaigua Β· Steakhouse and seafood with American fine dining
Nolan's is a dependable lakeside wine list that does right by its guests without taking any real risks β the Finger Lakes locals are a genuine highlight worth seeking out. Send a friend here for the view and the steak; tell them to order the Heron Hill.

Downtown Canandaigua Β· Canandaigua Β· Spanish tapas and wine bar
Pintxo is punching well above its weight class for a small-city wine bar, and the Spanish regional focus gives it a genuine identity that most places never find. If you're anywhere near the Finger Lakes and care even a little about wine, this one's worth the detour.

Rose Tavern is a perfectly pleasant place to drink wine if you're already staying at The Lake House β the setting does a lot of the work. But if you're driving in specifically for the wine list, you'd do better hitting a dedicated Finger Lakes tasting room down the road.

The Lake House is a beautiful place to get married or host a corporate dinner, but the wine program is clearly an afterthought β a functional, inoffensive list designed to move bottles at events, not to excite anyone. If you're eating here, drink the Finger Lakes options and leave the Meomi alone.

Rose Tavern isn't trying to be a destination wine bar, but it's got the bones of one β a sommelier, a thoughtful local-first list, and a glass program that lets you actually explore it. Markups on the name brands are punishing, but stick to the Finger Lakes section and you're drinking well at a lake view that most wine lists couldn't dream of.

Flavors isn't a wine destination, but it's not pretending to be one either β the list is honest, the prices are fair, and the Fox Run Riesling alone justifies ordering a bottle. Come for the food, drink the Riesling, and don't overthink it.
